Carousel 2001
Photos and Review

To celebrate our 60th Anniversary, the Silhouettes presented Carousel at the Grimsby Auditorium. We had a great week and the review in the Grimsby Telegraph read:
Spectacular showstopper tribute to
60th anniversary
A merry -go-round of emotions lies in store for anyone who visits Grimsby Auditorium this week for the Silhouettes Operatic Societys production of Carousel. The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, directed by James Colclough, was performed to perfection on its opening night and deservedly won rapturous applause when the final curtain drew to a close.
The way in which the stage was transformed from a fairground to a seashore and from an island to heaven, was a testimony to the skills of the stage crew. The art work of the backdrops was simply outstanding and their vibrant costumes caught the essence of New England in the late 1800s.

Credit should go to musical director Harold Thompson and choreographer Pat Yarborough. The dance routines from the opening Carousel Waltz to the emotive Carousel Ballet were exquisitely executed.
This was a cast of the highest quality which demonstrated its talent throughout this energetic production.
Helen Riley captured the anguish-ridden and exasperated Julie, who has to bear the brunt of her husbands violent ways. Alongside her in many scenes was the excellent Heidi Dows as Julies loyal friend Carrie. Her comic interludes with husband Enoch Snow, played superbly by John Lane, and the mischievous Jigger Craigin played by Stuart Evans evoked much laughter.
Nettie (Lynn Haynes) singing June is Bustin Out All Over
Lynn haynes was brilliant in her role as Nettie Fowler and her emotional rendition of Youll Never Walk Alone was simply stunning.
And who could forget little Eleanor May Thompson, the youngest child of the Snow family, who quickly captured the heart of the audience.
But perhaps above all else it was Gavin Mumby as Billy, the carousel barker who stole the show with his immensely powerful voice filling the Auditorium to the brim.
The 18 year old Franklin College student has recently been offered a place to study a musical theatre degree at Londons Mountview Theatre School and on the merits of last nights performance, Grimsby surely has a star in the making.

Carousel is a wonderful performance - a fitting tribute to the hard work, effort and committment of the cast and crew and a perfect way to celebrate their 60th anniversary.
