| Chapter 38 Soon the Christmas holidays were over. They were over much too soon. Harry wore his ring everyday and Christina cherished her locket. Harry sometimes caught her opening it and looking inside it during class. Shed look over at him and hed wink and she would smile and look away. Harry thought she was so beautiful. He would never be able to love anyone else like he loved Christina. He even wondered how he couldve thought he felt anything for Cho. Hermione and Ron returned back to Hogwarts safe and sound, both happier and closer than before. January swept by them in a woosh of cold air and Febuary hit the school hard with much snow and wind. Harry began to think of what he could get Christina for Valentines Day. Get her a stuffed dragon. , suggested Ron. She doesnt like dragons. , said Harry How could she not like dragons?! Shes a girl Ron, most girls dont like dragons. Ron rolled his eyes and lay down on the bed in the boys dormitory. Harry sat with his legs crossed and his chin in his hand trying to think. I cant think! , shouted Harry. Dont get her anything, give her a hug and a kiss and say Happy Valentines day doll face! suggested Seamus. Harry chuckled but shook his head. It had to be something special. Maybe he didnt have to get her anything at all like Seamus said, but he could DO something that was ten times better than anything he could ever give her. He lay down on his pillows and thought about it. He soon fell asleep and he had a horrible nightmare. There was Christina, tied to a pole and gagged. She was screaming and wriggling and looking at him pleadingly. He tried to run to her but there was a kind of force around her. Tears began to well in his eyes as he realized he couldnt save her, but he must. Then, out of the shadows came figures, tall, black, and menacing. They surrounded him and they all muttered a curse and flashes of green light exploded everywhere. He saw Christina scream and writhe in pain. She then lay limp. He ran towards her..running...running. Harry awoke drenched in sweat, screaming Christinas name. Ron was standing over him with a pillow ready to swing down on him. Harry! Harry! Are you all right mate? I thought I was going to have to use this., said Ron. He was breathing heavily and he slammed his head back down on the pillow. He shot straight up once more. Wheres Christina?! he shouted. In the girls dormitories, where else? As Ron spoke, Christina, Hermione, and Liz stormed into the room. Now all the boys were awake and Harry assumed so were the girls. Christina ran over to Harrys bedside and placed her hand on his forehead. Harry darling, are you all right? I heard you call my name. Is there any thing you need? she asked, desperately. He shook his head and clutched at her waist. She placed her hand on the back of his head and smoothed his hair. He sighed, she laid him back down on his bed and sat next to him as he fell, restlessly, back to sleep. The next day Harry explained his dream to Christina. She seemed very interested in all the details of it. He tried to keep her from worrying but all she would say was, This has happened before, How do I know this wont happen to me? And then she would sigh and look away. She knew this was going to come, the day when she would have to give everything for him. Harrys dreams werent normal dreams; she tried to remember that Voldemort could be trying to control him. But she couldnt help feeling a threatening sense of things to come. Soon Valentines day was upon them and Harry hadnt gotten Christina anything. That day was a Hogsmeade weekend and Christina refused to let Harry go and come back just to get her a present. Hermione and Ron both left for Hogsmeade that morning and Liz found her own date in Roger Davies. The two couples bade Harry and Christina farewell and wished them a happy and romantic Valentines Day. After they had seen their friends off, the two headed back to the common room. Harry had insisted she didnt buy him anything and they spent the afternoon chatting and sitting by the fire together. That night, after dinner, Christina began to head towards the common room. Harry smiled at her and said, Dont go upstairs. Wait here, I have a surprise for you. Harry walked outside to set up the plan he had made for her. He barely kept himself from skipping down the grounds. He lit his wand to see where he was going when he felt someone grab him from behind. He yelped but they covered his mouth. He lifted his wand to see who it was. His eyes opened wide, it was a smiling Cho Chang who uncovered his mouth and kissed him gently on the lips. Happy Valentines Day darling. she said, smiling. He tried to wriggle out of her grasp but she held on tight. She grabbed his hand and dragged him to the lakeshore. He tried to explain his way out of the situation. Cho, please, today is Valentines day and I know you still like me but I want to make this day special for me and CHRISTINA. She just giggled and said, I told you I can change that. He kept struggling but by the time he managed to get out of her grasp, she grabbed him by the waist and pulled him close then planted her lips on his. He stepped back in surprise but was still tight in Chos arms. Before he could try and move his arms he heard a scream come from his right. He ripped himself away from Cho and looked over. There, running down the from the castle doors, was Christina. Her face was pale but contorted with anger. She came right up to them and stopped a few inches away from Harry. He thought she might understand so he smiled at her and she lifted her arm and slapped him across the face. How dare you! You made me think you loved me! she cried. She was so angry; tears were streaming down her face as she screamed. Cho began to back away but Christina turned on her at once. AND YOU! Youre the hussy thats been tempting him! she yelled. Christina lunged at Cho and knocked her to the ground. All Harry could see was a lot of biting and pulling and punching. Before Christina could really do Cho any damage, he grabbed her by the arms and pulled her off. She fell back, breathing heavily. She ripped her arms away from him and stomped off. Harry walked behind her trying to explain. Christina, its not what you think. I do love you. She kissed ME, I didnt want to kiss her. I had a big Valentines day plan for you and I. Please. Please! Forgive me! But she would not hear it. She stuck her nose in the air and when they reached the Great Hall, she stomped up the stairs to the common room. Harry stood there in that empty hall for what felt like hours. His jaw was just hanging open. He felt Cho walk up beside him and lean over into his ear, How does it feel Harry Potter? And with that she walked away. He blinked but didnt move. So she didnt like him at all. Thats what this was about, it was about revenge. How could he be so stupid to think that two girls could actually like him. No, Cho just wanted him to know what it felt like to loose the one you love most. He sighed and thought, Well, at least she didnt KILL Christina. |
