Chapter 37

Harry awoke Christmas morning to the sun shining into his eyes. He blinked and reached over for his glasses. He slipped them onto his nose and looked around. All the boys had left the dormitory, to go show off their presents no doubt. Harry smiled when he saw his little pile at the foot of his bed. He pulled off the covers and crawled down to the edge and picked up the first package. It was from Hagrid. Harry pulled out the card and read in Hagrid's scarwled hand-writting.
Happy Christmas Harry!
I saw this in Hogsmeade and I just thought of you.
-Hagrid

Harry smiled as he placed the card to the side. He picked up the brown paper wrapped package and ripped it open. Inside was a book entitiled, '
Smooth flying tricks to do with your Firebolt'. Harry grinned as he placed the book next to it's designated card and reached for the second gift.
It was wrapped in Cudley Cannon wrapping paper so Harry assumed it was from Ron. Harry opened the card and out fell a galleon. Harry was amazed, the Weasleys never gave money. They didn't have the means to lose it but here it was. Harry read the card for his answer.
Hullo Harry!
Happy Christmas!
I hope you are having a jolly good time with Christina, I know you are.
I want all the details when I get back, alright?
You're probably wondering where I got this galleon?
Well, because Fred and George have been pitching in lately, my mum has decided to give me and Ginny an allowance, for chores and things you know?
Not like the chores you do at your aunt and uncles house I'm sure but they are chores.
Well, I'm almost out of room so I hope you enjoy you're present and don't eat too much of it!
-Ron

Harry placed the card next to Hagrid's and opened Ron's present. Inside was a life size chocolate statue of the Gryffindor lion, a green sweater with the letter 'H', and some Tongue Toffees. Harry snapped off one of the ears from the lion and stuffed it into his mouth before he reached for another gift.
This was from Hermione, Harry could tell from the percise wrapping procedure. He opened the card that read,
Dear Harry,
I hope you're holiday is going alright.
The Weasley's house was much fun as always and I also got to spend some time with Ron which was quite different now that we have spoken our true feelings. I hope the same doesn't count for you and Christina for you two never fight. I'm worried about you Harry. Please try and stay out of trouble until we get back. I hope you don't miss us too much. I can't wait to see you and Christina again. I'll see you when I get back.
Love,
Hermione

Harry sighed and set the card down next to him. He knew everyone was worried about him. He didn't want them to but he knew they were. This made Harry a little mad. He'd proven that he could take care of himself, why would no body believe him? Then, he remembered the prophesy but tried to shake it out of his mind. He picked up the present and opened it. Harry laughed, it was a brand new school bag with the words Harry Potter sewn into it and inside was a planner. He shook his head and put it down next to him and reached for the next present.
It was covered in saran wrap with the word "Boy" written across it. Harry slowly opened it and out came a coat hanger, a comb, and a note. Harry unfolded the note, surprised to see one at all he read,
Are you still alive?
- The Dursleys

Harry laughed to himself as he pictured his aunt and uncle's face the morning after he left. He tossed away the saran wrap and "gifts" and looked down at the last present left.
It was wrapped to perfection in deep crimson paper with a card attached to it. Harry opened the card and a red, sweet smell vapor rose out of it. He dropped the card and inched away as the smoke turned into the shape of a face. It was Christina. She began to speak and Harry's jaw dropped.
"
Hey Harry.Merry Christmas my love, my dearest, and my only. I don't like writing feelings but I'll can them but I can't to your face, not that I don't want to, I just don't think I'm ready. I hope you enjoy my gift to you. It's not much but I assure you that it is filled with my love."
The smoke then drifted out under the door but the perfume of it still lingered. Harry breathed it in heavily and reached for the gift. He unwrapped it and inside was a small box. He opened it and inside was a ring with the Gryffindor lion in red and gold, engraved on the outside. He looked on the inside of the ring. There was an engraving.
With love from Christina"

A tear escaped Harry's eye as he slipped it onto his right ring finger. He then closed the box and took the card and placed it with the other gifts.
He hopped off the bed quickly and changed into his clothes. He then raced over to his chest and filpped open the lid and searched around.
"Come on, Come on, Where is it?!"
Finally, at the bottom of the chest was what he was looking for. A golden box and card that he had been hiding till Christmas. He never really had time to wrap it but she wouldn't care. He hurried out of the boy's dormitory and went up to the girl's staircase and shouted up.
"Christina! Are you awake?!"
A disheveled looking Lavender Brown stuck her head out the door.
"What is all the bloody shouting for?"
"Is Christina there?"
"No she went down to breakfast a few minutes ago."
"Alright, thanks Lav."
