| Chapter 24 After dinner Harry and Chrisitina sat in the common room on the couch. Ron and Liz sat in front of the fireplace together. Hermione was no where to be found. Harry assumed she had gone to bed but it was only a half an hour after three. After another half an hour the clock struck four, Harry looked up, and pulled Christina by the arm. "Harry, don't pull, what is it?",said Christina. Harry explained Hagrid's letter and warned her not to eat the treacle fudge. He looked over at Ron, but Ron looked so happy talking to Liz that he couldn't interrupt him. Harry and Christina walked down the stairs and reached the front hall. They walked out into the setting sunlight and Christina raced out into the open and laughed, "Isn't it wonderful, Harry? The sunlight, the birds, and the beautiful sky? It's all just so peaceful." Harry looked up at the sky, "Well, I guess I've never really paid much attention to it." Christina sighed and ran towards Hagrid's hut with Harry on her heels. Before they even knocked, Hagrid opened the door and Fang jumped onto Christina,"Ugh! Get him off me!" Harry laughed and pulled Fang off so Christina could get up and walk in. Hagrid grabbed them both into an embracing hug, " 'arry,Christina! I'm so glad you're here! I want you to see somethin'." Hagrid pulled a huge, flat package out from under his table. "What's that Hagrid?", asked Christina. Hagrid smiled down at them, but then his face twisted into confusion, "Where are the others?" Harry racked his brain for an excuse, "Er....they were busy Hagrid. They send their regrets." Hagrid looked disappointed, "Oh well, you can tell 'em when you get back. Which I might add has to be soon, the sun is goin' down." Hagrid took the package and laid it on the table. The package was extremely long and flat and it was covered in brown paper. Hagrid smiled and smoothed the paper, " 'arry, Do you remember when I told yeah that I never really knew me mum and I was raised by me dad?" Harry looked up into Hagrid's shaggy face and saw his eyes fill with tears, "Yes Hagrid, I remember. I also remember your half-brother." Hagrid chuckled, "Well I finally have a picture of me family." He ripped off the paper and he held up the portrait. There were three people. There were two adults standing next to each other and the woman was holding a baby boy. There was a man standing beside her who looked like any man he had ever seen on Privet Drive. He was balding and he had glasses and reminded Harry of an accountant. Then, next to him, was huge woman. She had a bright pink dress on and her hair was in shambles around her head as if she was taken out of the wild and made to look civilized. She towered over the man but they both were smiling. The baby in the woman's arms looked like Hagrid only smaller with no beard. Harry could tell because the baby had Hagrid's eyes and immensely large features for a small child. Hagrid began to cry while he was looking at the picture. Christina came over and hugged him, "Oh Hagrid, don't cry. It's a lovely picture." Harry rolled his eyes as he looked at the family. Hagrid wiped away his huge tears and hugged Christina back, "It's not that I don't like it. I do, I just miss me family." Hagrid's head fell onto Christina's shoulders and Harry ran to keep her standing, "It's alright Hagrid. ugh....you've got us now.",said Harry, struggling to keep Hagrid from crushing Christina. Hagrid stood up and wiped his face again and blew his nose into his pokka dotted handkerchief, "You're right. Thank you, you two." Hagrid got out the teapot and teacups while Harry and Christina sat down at the table looking at the picture. Christina looked up at Harry, "Who's Hagrid's half brother?" Harry put his head on the table and spoke into the oak wood, "Grawp, he was HUGE! Hagrid kept him in the woods last year." ,he lifted his head, "You DID take him back to the mountains right Hagrid?" Hagrid wiped his face again,"Yup, but I visited him last summer. He's becoming a big guy now." Harry rolled his eyes,"He was already big, Hagrid." Hagrid smiled and brought over their tea. The three drank their tea in silence. Soon, it was dark and Harry got up from his seat, "Well,I suppose we should leave Christina." Hagrid nodded, "Yeah, you're right. Ok, see yeah later you two." Christina gave Hagrid one last hug, "I hope you enjoy your picture Hagrid. Good night." Harry and Christina left Hagrid's hut together and headed back up to school. Harry looked at Christina's hand hanging at her side. Harry thought she looked so beautiful in the moonlight. Harry began to get nervous, "Just take her hand. It's not hard. You've known each other all summer. That two and a half months! You know she feels the same way. She just doesn't want to get hurt but you don't like to hurt anyone!", thought Harry. Harry slowly reached over and grabbed her hand. Christina grasped it tightly, "Harry, your hand is so cold and clammy. Are you alright? Do you need to go to the hospital wing?" Christina put her hand on his forehead. Harry took that hand and clasped it in his free one He looked into her eyes and smiled. He let go of one of her hands and they each walked back up to the school in silence. |
