Our Rabbitry

Silent Springs Rabbitry is a small rabbitry located in Southern California with 20 holes currently that has been breeding Mini Lops since 2005. We are currently focusing on breeding quality, colored Mini Lops in Chocolate and Dilute varieties.. During the summer we have 2 fans on for most of the day as well as a misting system since summers here can get quite hot! We will also put ice bottles in with some of the rabbits that need a little bit more help to keep cool. Winters are not bad here, so thankfully we don't have to do anything then. We handle our rabbits from the day that they are born in order to ensure sweet, loving temperments, perfect if they are destined to become a spoiled pet bunny for their new owners once they are ready to leave our rabbitry. We also handle our adult rabbits frequently to ensure that great personalities are continued. My rabbits' lines consist of
Silent Spring's (my line!) Velotta's, Milkhouse's, Kitsemble's, and Vail's lines. This condensation of my lines gives me what I feel is a more genetically sound genepool. Since I use such few lines I make sure the lines I choose are the best breeders in the Nation and are compatible with each other.

As of 2008, we have decided to change our prefix from "SSR's" to "Silent Spring's". Any rabbits featured on this site with either of these prefixes have been bred by us. Thanks for understanding!

Our Breeding Programs

Chocolates and Lilacs - We started our chocolate line off with a few chocolate carriers from Qadoshyah Fish of Hoppin Herd of Hares. She has helped me so much is getting good, quality chocolate stock. I have also incorporated Nicole Velotta's former chocolate project animals as my herd's foundation (Velotta's Raymond, a RGC chocolate carrior opal buck) Our chocolates and lilacs have excellent body types and great personalities, and we hope to continue to improve with them even more as time goes on. As of Fall '08, we will start incorporating Sara Kitsemble's line into ours and we expect to see great improvement in our generations to come!

Dilutes -
Nicole Velotta of Velotta's Rabbitry and Lisa Davis of Milkhouse Lops have both given me some excellent dilute Mini Lops, I couldn't have asked for better stock! They have helped me build an awesome foundation for them, as the type is already gorgeous! I have been extensively using my dilutes to better the type on my chocolates, since some of my dilute bunnies carry chocolate themselves. With the dilutes I mainly get opals, but I am trying very hard to start getting blues as well.
