What is a Warmblood, say you?
Technically a warmblood is a type of horse. There are three types of horses: coldbloods, warmbloods, and hot-bloods. Each type is defined by its temperment and physical characteristics. Coldbloods are horses or ponies that tend to be more calm or docile in nature. Coldbloods tend to originate from colder climates so are built better to retain body heat. The most well-known coldbloods are the draft horses, particularly the Shires (Budweiser horses) and Clydesdales. Warmbloods are horses crossed between a coldblood and a hot-blood. Hot-bloods tend to originate from hot climates so are built better to withstand high tempatures. Their hair is fine and short and they carry their tails high to facilitate heat loss. Hot-blooded horses also tend to be more flighty and spirited.
But one must always remember each horse is an individual; one horse may actually seem like it should be categorized into a different type.

In The Giant Book of the Horse (no clue who wrote it) they define the Warmblood thus: "In practice, a horse which is a cross between a hot-blood breed or type and a coldblood breed or type. More specifically, warmbloods are taken to mean warmblooded horses originating from one of the continental European counties."

While we're on this subject, I would also like to define the term "sporthorse" since it's use is somewhat general and used often when speaking of Warmbloods. A sporthorse is one that competes or is used for recreational purposes in dressage, three-day eventing, jumping, and driving.

So anyways. Here is a list all of the Warmblood breeds that I know of. The ones that are links you can click on to find more information. If you know of any more, let me know =)
