Fort Boggy State Park is the site of a fort built in 1840 by settlers needing protection from Indians, and was so named because of its proximity to Boggy Creek. Though the fort no longer exists, the park now has a beach swimming area and 2 hiking/mountain bike/nature trails. It is also part of the Big Woods Loop described on the Prairies & Pineywoods Wildlife Trail - West map. The abundant wildlife includes deer, squirrels, foxes, beavers and racoons. As every camper knows, racoons will steal anything they can get their hands on, but hopefully they will leave their namesake box alone! Note: the park is only open Friday-Sunday.
NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
