THIS LETTERBOX WAS REPORTED MISSING ON 04/14/04 AND WILL NOT BE REPLACED.

This letterbox was originally created to replace my Texas Ranger Letterbox because it had been reported missing. When I discovered it was not missing, I decided to rename this one and hide it in a different place as a new letterbox. Please see my Texas Ranger Letterbox clues for a description of the Texas Rangers and the Museum dedicated to them.

This box is located in Cameron Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the United States. It is comprised of more than 450 acres of varied terrain lying along the banks of the Brazos and Bosque Rivers, and has more than 10 miles of signed trails for hiking, jogging, biking or horseback riding. It also has a disc golf course, an 18-hole golf course, several playgrounds and a wild flower preserve. So come for the letterbox but stay a while to enjoy all this park has to offer, and while here, be sure to look for Baby Bear's Baylor Bear Letterbox, too.

Directions:

Waco is located about 175 miles northwest of Houston and Cameron Park is in the downtown area. From I-35, take 4th street downtown, and continue on past the zoo to Waco street (major intersection and end of oneway road). Go straight across into Cameron Park, and continue on to T-juction in road. Turn left on Sturgis Road (sign will point left to Cameron Park Clubhouse). Go to the clubhouse and park across the street next to Miss Nellie's Pretty Place.

Clues:

Walk over to the cement sign along Sturgis Road that reads "Miss Nellie's Pretty Place". From the sign go southwest along a side road for 41 steps to the iron gate. Enter the gate and go right (southwest) on the path which parallels the road until you reach the back gate and path bends. Go left on path for 95 more steps to "Miss Nellie's Pretty Place Composting Demonstration Garden". Enter the garden and go 40 steps along the cement loop. Look south and find the last wooden post that forms the back gate. Walk 7 steps south, off the cement loop, to that wooden post on your left. From the post, go 16 steps south at 200 degrees (outside the fence). Now look left and locate a cedar tree with a multi-base trunk. Go 6 steps to the trunk of this tree. The box is on the northeast side, at the base, covered with cement pieces.

NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
