The USS Venerable, like all Prometheus class ships, is primarily a battleship, with a secondary role of exploration. Because of this, the department structure differs slightly from that of a typical federation starship. Due to the nature of our role, we have a reduced science facility, and no diplomatic department. This is replaced by a full marine detachment, sizable flight wing and a permanent "Shadow Operations" unit. Our different operational structure means that the communications officer is placed within our flight control section. Additionally, several of the enlisted/warrant officer positions are "doubled up" in order that the necessary posts are filled with the available officers.
