Vision Statement

     Sigma High School will provide a personalized and nurturing learning enviornment that will afford students a "second chance, fresh start" to their high school experience. The Sigma staff is commited to a quality academic program that reflects district and state standards, provides individual support and encourages activities that promote student success, improve self-esteem, and enhance resiliency. When students leave Sigma High School, most will have skills and confidnece in their ability to succeed.



School-Wide Expected Studend Learning Results (ESLER's)

By the time a Sigma High School student graduates, the student should know and be able to:

1. Communicate Effectively
Most of our students will:

complete challenging reading assignments designed to improve skills, comprehend and analyze information, charts, instructions, graphs, maps, and learn to read for pleasure and enjoyment.

complete challenging writing assignmenst designed to improve skills, learn to write reports, letters, resumes, position and term papers, how to take notes, and devise outlines.

2. Apply Algebraic Principles
Most of our students will:

complete assignments designed to master specific skills

use charts, models, group work, and complete oral and written assignments to demonstrate an understanding of Algebra concepts

3. Utilize Critical Thinking Skills
Most of our students will be able to:

apply and transfer the skills and knowledge learned to new situations

use critical thinking skills to interpret, analyze, and synthesize information

4. Recognize Career Options
Most of our students will:

acquire knowledge of career possibilities based on personal interests and develop goals for a post-secondary direction

utilize the Eureka and software programs for inquiry into various career fields

read, discuss and complete assignments related to careers and educational options

learn the SCANS workplace competencies

listen, take notes and devise follow-up questions based on information presented by guest speakers

5. Be Responsible Citizens
Most of our students will:

exhibit socially responsible behavior, respect cultural diversity and the rights of others

attend school regularly, on time, with the required materials

learn skills for apporpiately resolving conflicts

learn to make informed choices and recognize the resultant consequences

learn the hazards of alcohol and substance abuse, and the resources available to support physical and emotional health and well being.
