Sigma Delta Tau- Psi Chapter
No chapter shall have a policy that is in conflict with the National Policies of Sigma Delta Tau, its University's Policies, or the policies of the College Panhellenic organization.
1. HAZING:
Hazing is against SDT policy and is not permitted. Hazing is "any action taken or situation created, intentionally, whether on or off fraternity premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule. Such activities and situations include creation of excessive fatigue, physical and psychological shocks; wearing publicly, apparel which is conspicuous and not normally in good taste; engaging in public stunts and jokes; morally degrading or humiliating games and activities; late night sessions which interfere with scholastic activities; and any other activities which are not consistent with the regulations and policies of the educational institution". [See also, the NPC Policy on hazing, which is incorporated by reference.]
Violation of this policy subjects the chapter to National Supervision and the violator(s) to dismissal.

2. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES:

All federal, state, provincial, local and college/university policies and regulations regarding alcohol use will be obeyed by all members of Sigma Delta Tau Sorority. The consumption of alcoholic beverages by members who are under the legal drinking age is FORBIDDEN by law.
1. There shall be no consumption of or storage of ANY alcoholic beverages on any property owned by, rented by, controlled by, used in the name of or occupied in the name of Sigma Delta Tau sorority including but not limited to suites, dorm floors, designated dorms, houses or designated areas.

2. Alcohol may not be sold at a Sigma Delta Tau sponsored or cosponsored fund raiser or philanthropic event.

3. Sigma Delta Tau funds may NOT be used to purchase alcohol. Sigma Delta Tau funds may NOT be transferred to an individual to purchase alcohol.

4. No chapter member, collectively or individually shall purchase for, serve to, or sell alcoholic beverages to any minor.

5. There shall be no consumption of alcoholic beverages at ANY rush or new member function.

6. Beer or other alcoholic beverage companys involvement in or identification with Sigma Delta Tau sponsored or cosponsored events is NOT permitted.

7. Parties may NOT be advertised in bars.

8. Chapter event may NOT be held in an establishment where only those over a certain age can be admitted.

9. No more than 4 way exchanges are permitted. Maximum party size is two guests per member, not to exceed maximum capacity of the physical location of the party site.

10. At all events where alcoholic beverages are served, non-alcoholic beverages and food must be prominently available.

11. We strongly recommend that alcohol only be served at a Sigma Delta Tau sponsored/cosponsored event (in compliance with this policy) by a licensed bartender who has substantial liability insurance and who accepts the legal responsibility for determining which individuals in attendance are of legal drinking age and for denying service to those who are under legal drinking age OR who are intoxicated. The bartender must accept the responsibility for compliance with any other applicable local and/or state law regarding alcohol consumption and sale.
12. Anyone who is intoxicated must be denied entrance to Sigma Delta Tau sponsored/cosponsored events.

13. Open parties, including those held before or after a sponsored/ cosponsored event are prohibited. Open parties means those with unrestricted access by non-members of Sigma Delta Tau without specific invitation where alcohol is present.

14. The purchase and/or use of a bulk quantity of alcoholic beverages (i.e. kegs) is PROHIBITED.

15. When transportation is provided, no alcoholic beverages may be consumed on the vehicle by ANYONE.

16. A definite ending time must be established for events at which alcohol is served. The service of alcohol must end one hour prior to the scheduled event ending time.

17. We strongly recommend that professional security personnel be employed for all and attend all of Sigma Delta Tau sponsored/ cosponsored events at which alcohol is served.

18. BYOB is permitted with permission from the National Risk Management Chairperson at an off-site location if all other risk management controls are in place: age screening, security, alternate transportation, etc.

19. No chapter may sponsor/cosponsor an event with an alcohol distributor, charitable organization or tavern (tavern defined as an establishment generating more than 1/2 annual gross sales from alcohol) where alcohol is given away, sold or otherwise provided to those present.

20. An insurance function planning form must be submitted to Marsh & McLennan Insurance Company and the Sigma Delta Tau National Office 10 days prior to the event. All contracts for alcohol must be approved by the Sigma Delta Tau National Office.
3. ILLEGAL DRUGS OR NARCOTICS:
Sigma Delta Tau prohibits the use of illegal drugs and narcotics on Sigma Delta Tau premises and further prohibits the abuse of any drug or narcotic on said premises, or in connection with Sigma Delta Tau activities. Drugs and drug paraphernalia (including, but not limited to: bongs, pipes, snorters, cocaine kits, roach clips, etc.) are not allowed in any house, suite or dorm floor owned, leased or rented by Sigma Delta Tau. Violation of this policy subjects the chapter to National Supervision and the violator(s) to dismissal.

4. FORMALS, DATED FUNCTIONS AND SOCIALS:

Sigma Delta Tau supports the NPC resolution which encourages all chapter events be held within the local college community to reduce the potential liability for the chapter and the National Sorority. Sigma Delta Tau prohibits functions outside the local college community. A function held within sixty (60) miles of the college campus is considered the local college community.

Sigma Delta Tau formals, dated functions, and/or social events may last no longer than five (5) hours. Sigma Delta Tau prohibits the chapter from promoting, reserving and using overnight accommodations. Sigma Delta Tau strongly discourages its members and their guests from promoting and reserving and suing overnight accommodations, as such actions significantly increase the potential for personal injury and liability.
All Sigma Delta Tau members and their guests must use sorority sponsored and contracted drivers for transportation (i.e. limousines, taxis, buses, and vans) to travel to and from the event. Alcoholic beverages and illegal substances, as defined in Sigma Delta Tau's National policies, may not be brought on board sorority sponsored transportation.
5. SIGNING OF CONTRACTS:
When entering into a contract concerning arrangements for facilities for formals/social functions, vendors (i.e., photographers, specialty items salesmen), and leases, the following should be done:

1. The National or Local Advisor(s) should review all contracts.

2. The Chapter President and Treasurer are to be the authorized representatives to sign for the chapter, signing their names and titles.

3. Social contracts should not be signed if they release the establishment from liability.

4. Goods under contract should be delivered before being paid with a chapter check. Do not deal with anyone demanding pre- payment, however payments of a minimal deposit are acceptable.
6. HUMAN DIGNITY:
All members of Sigma Delta Tau should have a positive influence in the direction and achievements of the university community. All sorority activities should promote self-worth, human dignity and a positive Greek image. Sigma Delta Tau prohibits the sponsoring of, or participating in, any activities including competitive games, which are destructive, demeaning, abusive, which promote divisiveness among NPC member groups, or promote a negative image of the Greek community.
