Castillo has been accepted to the Rossier Schol of Education at USC to obtain
her
Master’s
Degree in Educational Psychology/Instructional Technology. Veronica is a Human Resources Director at
Freedom
Publishing (Register) and plans to use her degree to
understand human learning and apply it to telecommunication technologies.
On June 21st,
Kristin Simcox got engaged to John Busuego, a Phi Kappa Tau at Cal State
Fullerton.
They are
planning to get married next July.
In August,
Carol and and Dick Sneary celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
by taking a cruise with their children
and grandchildren
to Puerta Vallarta and

West Orange
County Alumnae Group enjoyed a winning convention!
We received
the Outstanding Public Relations Award (good collegiate chapter relations,
alumnae panhellenic relations,
and recognition
of outstanding member achievements). Honorable
Mentions were received for
1)
Alumnae Panhellenic Award; 2) Patricia Carlin Smith Award for
working with collegiate chapter;
3) Mary Low
Carver Award for outstanding chapter in college community;
4) Eleanor
Dygert Haddon Award for sustaining alumnae chapter growth;
5) Sigma
Kappa Triangle Award; 6) Most
Outstanding Alumnae Newsletter Award.
Marge Miller
and her husband received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the
Social Services
Agency for working at Operation Santa Claus for the last 5 years.
The award was
presented by Bill Campbell andn other councilmen, plus they received a
congressional plaque and booklet.
Karen Powel
won the Division award for Professional Needlework at the Orange County Fair,
for her new
granddaughter’s
homecoming outfit, including gown, blanket, and booties in hand dyed silk with
smocking,
lace, and
hand embroidery. The blanket is wool
with a backing of silk.
Karin Haspell
recently cut her hair short again to donate a 15 inch ponytail to Locks of
Love.
They use the
hair to make hair pieces for financially disadvantaged children who for some
medical reason
do not have

Another
winner at the Orange County Fair was Carmen Smith who won
Hobbies –
Tablesetting.” Her table was set for “An
Elegant Easter Dinner.”
At the Santa
Barbara Writers Conference in June, Joanne Rodasta Wilshin won the coveted
first place
award in
their highly competitive Worst First Sentenc contest!
Epsilon Tau
Congratulations
to the women of Epsilon Tau who were recently recognized at National Convention
as a prestigious
Two Star –
Standards of Excellence chapter. The
chapter was also recognized with an Honorable Mention
for the Alice
Hershey Wick Award for cooperating with National headquarters, timely
submission of reports and an
excellent
recruitment. They also received a
Sisterhood Recognition Award for providing serive to another chapter.
