La Manzanilla Beach

April 2, 2000 - Time Change Day

The folks at Bananarama didn't know that the time changed today. So they weren't there at 7:00 AM as usual. Oh Well. This is Mexico! Lay Back. Relax. But either did Shirley. Shirley is a lady who has been staying at our hotel the whole time we have been, and today is the day they leave for Puerto Vallarta to head home. So, when I told her it was already 8:15, she got a little worried, and started to move quickly, as their bus was to leave at 9:30.

For us, it was off to La Manzanilla Beach for the day. A seven peso bus ride up a big hill (the one Dad didn't ride the bicycle up) and down the other side to a beautiful beach. The bus was "wide open" all the way. We figured he must be practicing for the Mexico 500.

We staked out a good spot on the beach. Umbrella on the beachGrandpa haggled with the lady from the campground by the crocodile lagoon for two tables plus umbrellas. We went over to the lagoon looking for Mr. Crocodile. We looked and looked but never did see the Old Croc himself. Lots of signs warning us not to feed the caiman, no swimming - crocodile zone, no throwing anything at the crocodile, etc. So, I guess he is in there, we just didn't see him.

We took a couple of long walks along the beach, talking to some kids who had been fishing, and watching some pelicans. Also made a couple of beer runs for Dad and Bob. Cindy mostly sat under her umbrella, she doesn't like a lot of sun. We had a little lunch, and then it was time to catch the bus back home. Waited in the hot sun for a while before it came.

We got home about 3:30. Bob drinking from a coconut Decided it was time to try the coconuts from the "Coconut Man" in the hotel next door. Good thing we just got one! They are HUGE, and not too popular with the Alberta crowd. It tasted better once you put "the Lime in the Coconut", but even then, it just tasted like warm limey milk. I guess you have to acquire a taste for them. Maybe next time we'll add some tequila.

We met a nice couple from Pemberton, B.C. - Will, Ruth, and their 3 yr old daughter, Hannah. She took quite a liking to Bob, calling him "My Bob" for the duration of their stay. We took Mom and Bob & Cindy to Alcatraz for supper again. Had the chicken Alcatraz en el profundo calzone. That's that chicken in a Deep lava bowl. Some of them are deep, some aren't, and it doesn't seem to matter whether your bowl is deep or shallow. It costs the same, only you get twice as much if you ask for the deep bowl. Just a hint.
