To Market, To Market

miercoles, marzo 29

Bananarama for coffee with Mom and then bought ocho bollios on the way home. Got the kids and headed for "the Market". Every Wednesday in Melaque there is about a 10 block long area set up with tables of everything from cookware to underwear. Lots of underwear! Christy buying sunglasses Christy bought sunglasses. She got the young man to go from 160 pesos to 100 pesos. About $15.00 Canadian. And this is a kid who speaks NO Spanish at all. They're probably worth about $5.00 but she was pretty pleased. Then she found a fella selling bracelets who sold her one for 100 pesos as well. I had seen one I liked earlier, but he wanted 120p and wouldn't go lower. No bracelet for Mom.

Back to the beach, where Christy decided to try "surfing" with her inflatable ring. It was fun right up until she got "rocked" by this one wave, dumped upside down, and came up with a bleeding nose. Game over. We bought mangos on a stick from a lady walking down the beach, balancing a tray of them on her head. And then we headed back to the pool. Love that pool! We practiced snorkelling a bit. Still having a hard time getting the hang of it. I think I have a defective snorkel.....yeah, right!

Bill and Annette, from British Columbia gave us two air mattresses because, after 9 weeks, they are headed home tomorrow. So the kids, Grandpa and I all had great fun at the pool with those! Bill gave me lots of hints of where to go on some side trips. He recommended Tenacatita (already on my list!) Colima/Comilla towns - volcano area, La Manzanilla Beach, and also gave us some tips on restaurants in Melaque and Barra - Velaros, Seamasters and Alcatraz to name a few.

Well, Dad figured he would go back to our original hotel and see if his deposit was available yet. We had kind of decided that it probably wouldn't be, but even if we got a portion of it back, we were just so much more comfortable at Las Brisas that it would be worth forfeiting the deposit if it came to that. Every day had been, "come back tomorrow". But when he got there today, the clerk had his money. No hard feelings, and Dad left smiling.

We headed to Alcatraz for supper. It's on the second floor, and overlooks the main street in town. You can see everything that's going on while you're dining. I ordered the Pollo Alcatraz. It's chunks of chicken in sort of a spicy sauce, and it comes to the table boiling in a lava bowl. It was Awesome! Grandpa got a free margarita.

While sitting looking down the street we saw the only drunk we saw all vacation. He was SO drunk, he was lying in the road, empty bottle beside him. The lady in the shop started throwing her water out onto the street right beside him, hoping to rouse him. No response. Then she started sprinkling him with it. Then all the little kids got in on the act, rattling their noisemakers, and throwing water onto him. Everybody thought it was pretty interesting. Jeff was just waiting for him to puke. But he just lay there. We walked around.

Another early night. Looks like we'll go to Barra again tomorrow.
