Carter got up the next morning, showered and went to work without waking up Lucy since he had a 5:30 shift and she wasn’t supposed to get up until 7:00. When he went into the hospital, Abby was there to greet him.
“Hey, Carter!”
“Good morning, Abby.”
“Nothing major is expected for the next half hour, you want to go get some breakfast?”
“Sure”, he smiled, “That would be great.” Abby looks so good today, thought Carter...... Stop it, he told himself. So they laughed, joked and walked to Doc Magoos. They had breakfast there and returned.
Around 6:30 Lucy came in, “Hey Carter, lets go.”
Lucy and Carter had made plans to go out for breakfast on his break and she would arrive half an hour early.
“You can go ahead, I already had breakfast,” he simply brushed her off.
“You did?”
“Yeah, with Abby.”
“Okay, then”
Lucy left to do paperwork and was no longer in any mood to eat now. She was fuming.
At around 10, Abby found Lucy still doing paperwork in an exam room.
“Hey, Luce.”
“Hey, Abby.”
“What are you doin?”
“What does it look like I’m doing?” she snapped but quickly said sorry.
“I wanted to ask you a question.”
“Sure shoot,” she said through clenched teeth.
“I know you and Carter are pretty good friends and I was wondering....”
“What?”
“If u knew Carter was going out with any one? I think he wants to go out with me.”
That bitch! thought Lucy! She was after Carter! Wasn’t satisfied with Luka cause her eyes were set on Carter! He did seem to be paying extra attention to her these past few days.
“No, not that I know of,” she responded cooly.
“That’s great!”

Later that night, Carter drops by.
“Carter, we have to talk”
“Sure, about what?”
“Today Abby asked me if you were going out with anyone.”
“So what did u tell her?”
“I said no.”
“Why couldn’t you just tell her the truth?”
“Because I didn’t want to.”
“Why not?”
“I have noticed you two have been spending more and more time with each other and it seems to me that you guys both want to go out with each other.”
“How can you think that?”
“You tell me!”
“So you think I am going behind your back?”
Lucy nodded with tears in her eyes. “You must have done something to make her feel you are interested in her!”
“So... after all this time we have been going out, you never trusted me?”
Lucy shook her head and bit her lip, “Fine then, we’re over!”
He left the apartment and slammed shut the door.
Lucy lowered herself to the floor and sobs shook her body. What had she done? Was it right?

Carter was fuming mad. How could she not trust me and just want to end our relationship over suspicion? He stuck the key in the ignition and sped home.
