Genesis Continued

something biblical, by the sidewalk philosopher

September 2003

The Sidewalk Philosopher shows his cynical side.

And the Lord looked out upon all that he had made;
The creatures of his earth in divine assemblage stood.
And the Lord gravely considered the state of his creation
And couldnt help laughing in his deep rumbling tone:
The earth and all its creatures amok had run
Perpetually confused and destructive upon his fair soil
Destroying what he had built with reckless abandon.
And the Lord, though he knew well its tragedy
Laughed still at what he saw, at the folly of men
And at the ignorance of him so batantly displayed.

The Lord considered gravely what remained to him;
His options with his mighty hands did he sternly weigh,
The memory of the last great flood remained with him still.
And the inconvenience caused him by Noahs debacle
Stood freshly imprinted on his divine brain,
And the Lord decided that a flood could not be the way
To end the laughable events of an earth gone wild.
Instead the Lord called out in his mighty voice
Across the universe and all the cosmos heard the command;
And the Lord said, Let there be English homework!

And so it came to pass.
