PROJECT 2001 TEAM: Road to SHS, The website. The story of the SHS Website started back in the late 90's, well, 1997 to be exact, when a student by the name of Lam Jiih Kui spotted a rare site, at least up to that moment, it was still a rare site - It's the beginning of the SHS Website based at Geocities. He then quickly contacted his friend, Alex Ling Zi Neng and told him about the site. They both checked out the site but found it a bit 'simple and basic' and the worst of all, the contents are far too little to even be called a site! But, no offence, Mr. David Ong - The man who started the site, we would like to call him the pioneer of the SHS Website. So, Alex decided to e-mail Mr. David and made comments about the site and also offered helps. Eventually, Lam and Alex then, were still learning about the basics of HTML and page building, they made a simple site about the school and let Mr. David to have a look on it. After a few days, Alex received an e-mail, it was from Mr. David! He called both of Lam and Alex up for a meeting on a Saturday morning and they were so excited about it. Of course, they attended the meeting, but found out that there was an extra student other than those they were expected, he was a Form 4 students (1997) by the name of Thomas Ting. He was better than both Lam and Alex in page building, WAY better than them. Mr. David Ong discussed about forming a webteam and other team operation procedures, of course, they weren't out of the main topic of that day - Building a website for SHS. Mr. David printed out Lam and Alex's simple SHS site, including Thomas' own SHS website which is much better than anyone else's at that time. After a long discussion of opinions and ideas, they finally decided to start off the project led by Mr. David Ong himself. The Webteam started their project by gaining and collecting information, photos, data about the school and the building and editing followed. It took them a few weeks to finish the entire project but that's not it, from time to time, updates were made to the site and it looks better and better in each updates. Remember, the team are still kind of a beginner to webpage building and the most advance tools that they could manage and handle is a few simple Java scripts which runs the MIDI player. So, life is hard for them at that period of time. |
