A background of the COD
OK, here is a brief out-of-character explanation of the premise of COD: Within the storyline, Dan is a mentally disturbed megalomaniac who drugs and brainwashes people, then convinces them that he is an omnipotent deity. TOS is Dan with no clothes on. Betsy is either a real goat (who can't really talk) or Dan in a goat-suit--depending on what Betsy is doing at the time. Binky is Dan kneeling on a pair of sneakers. That's the bedrock "reality" of the storyline. But the drones are so brainwashed and mind-controlled, that they see them as different people. That's the "appearance" that Dan creates in the drones' minds.COD is a little more complex than some role-playing venues, because it has this "appearance vs. reality" thing happening. Occasionally, people come along who are not brainwashed (like the Rev. Dick Jr., Felicia Pickup, Bob Woodward). These people see what Dan is doing, and even try to explain it to the drones ("Fer cryin' out loud, can't you people see this is just Dan kneeling on a pair of sneakers? What's the matter with you???"). But the drones are so brainwashed that they loyally resist all attempts to interfere with their delusions, and even help Dan to trick and humiliate these people whenever possible. Beyond that basic foundation, it's pretty wide open. Because most of the members "see" everything as part of an impossible fantasy world, when interacting with each other the various loony people can take things into impossible directions, such as:
Also, since one of the COD mandates is to make Dan laugh, it's perfectly OK to not bother making a character and just post random funny comments. Or you can just be yourself and react however you think you would if you actually saw all this bizarre behavior going on, or you can make up a character, sane or not, brainwashed or not, and just have a few laughs. The only time we would really need some sort of clue as to what your character is doing is if you have very specific ideas or plans for him and these ideas and/or plans directly impact other characters. You can tip us off through subtle hints (or not so subtle if we don't follow it.), by discussing your idea in our Out Of Character club, the "Cult Lounge",or directly emailing me and/or the people you want to run an idea with.
