"My Love,
What a terrible day! The weapons were failing all over the place. I got so tired and dirty running up and down the flight line; getting parts that just wouldn’t work. What bothered me the most is that I had to stand back and let the NCOs decide what to try next. Of course I offered some suggestions, but they didn’t listen to a lowly PFC with no experience on gunnery. I got tired just standing there being a gopher. Eventually, I stopped giving suggestions and decided to let them take the heat for things not working.
I’m sitting here on my cot inside this cement block hut with the lights partially on at one end of the building and I can hardly see to write. Most of the guys are asleep from the exhaustion or from being drunk. I’m unable to sleep without at least writing this to you. I’ve grown used to having you by my side and I want so dearly to be making love to you, holding you and having you near. I think I feel so secure, so in love when you are with me. My God I think I just realized how much I deeply and how much I truly love you and it is overwhelming my emotions. I just cannot begin to tell you how much I’ve grown to need you in my life. This feeble little poem is for you and this is my best to try to capture the essence of what I feel:
The Words
If I could only hear you speak
As I sit here praying for more of you
To be with me and pronounce
Those small resounding words
Give the sound I need to hear to let me rest
My pursuit today will have an end
Please do not say it in jest
Let the whole world know and comprehend
Sing the song and let me revel in the meaning
The joy of my heart will be fulfilled
If you say it all too seeming
To be truthful to my will
This long tortuous route I've chose
Just to be able to hear you say
My mind is in such a confusing mess
Speak the word to relax I may
One quick sentence is all I ask
To let my worry be calm
All I need is for you to say
I give my love to you this day"

"My Love,
Just another bad day with little accomplished. I must have picked up hundreds of rockets today. My arms are so tired. I became somewhat nervous because we were not loading them the way we were taught in school. We were tossing them around and I thought for sure they were going to shoot off, but I guess I was overly cautious. Just like yesterday there were numerous failures and this TOW missile sure isn’t as reliable as one would expect. I can see what is wrong. The equipment hasn’t been taken care of as it should have been. I can see broken connectors, rusting components and parts that just break off. If we ever have to really use this stuff to defend ourselves I’m running for cover because they sure won’t work.
What I really need is to hold you for a few days. I really need to feel your gorgeous body next to mine. I want to hear you say I Love You. This is for you:
Stranded
If you were stranded on a mountain
I would climb to the top
And carry you down
If you were marooned on a deserted island
I would swim an infinite distance to be with you,
But we would not leave
If you were imprisoned in some jail
I would fight a hundred thousand men to rescue you
And bring you home to safety
If you were lost in deep space
I would search the endless cosmos
To bring you back
If you were lost in a swamp
I would wrestle a thousand alligators
To save you from being eaten
If you were sick
I would search the world high and low
To find a cure
If you lie on your deathbed
I would pray to God
To take me instead
If I could no longer see you
Life would not be worth living
And I would end my life
If you were sad and lonely
I would hold you tight and never let go
To comfort you
If I was stranded, marooned, imprisoned, lost,
Sick, sad, lonely or lying on my deathbed
I would just think of you
And the pain would go away and it did"

"My Love,
Jack went off the deep end this evening and lashed out at Bobby and I. He eventually pulled a knife and Steve had to put him down permanently. I don’t think he would have done anything even if Steve wasn’t there. He hit me pretty good in the cheek when he first lashed out, but Bobby and I put him down the first time. My head is a little sore though. I’m not so sure if it was from him hitting me or from what I drank. I put some ice on my face and closed my eyes for a little while and this little poem came to me. I hope you like it:
Shut My Eyes
I shut my eyes out of fatigue
Seagulls cried out in my head
The sound of the ocean lapped at my feet
I could smell the salt air
The moon shone bright all around
In the moon beams a lady danced
Pirouetting and delicately flowing
I watched bathed in the beauty
Of the serenity and tranquillity
The dancer brushed by
The moon accentuated shapely curves
I was completely hypnotized
I watched in delight and joy
The figure paused for only a moment
I noticed that the person was you
Oh the sight of the moon on your face and body
Had me trapped with desire
You approached me
I could not and would not move
The breeze blew your hair across your face
And then surrounded us both
As we kissed
My eyes opened
My heart was beating fast
Where had I been
Heart beat please slow down
So that I may shut my eyes again"

"My Love,
Did I tell you that I ran to the front gate this evening? I did not hurry because I was afraid of missing the bus. I hurried because I could not wait to be with you. I would have run all the way home to be with you as soon as possible. Every night I just want to stay awake so that I do not sleep through the cherished moments that I may spend with you. The history and the truth is that the moments we share together now can never be changed - not now, not twenty, fifty, a hundred, a thousand, a million years from now there will be you and I at this point. For in this space and time, at this moment of all the billions of things that are happening on this Earth, I have the privilege to spend them with you. I plead to the heavens for more of these moments. I hope I am never a disappointment to you for you are more than I have ever dreamed. For you:
When I See You
When I see you walk my way
My heart fills with longing and joy
Could it be you smiling at me
I find it hard to believe
When I see you speak to me
I get lost in your words
I am embarrassed to admit
That I am unable to reply
When I see you stand next to me
My pride to be with you is high
I must wrap it up inside
I dare not let it show
When I see you reach out
I have an uncontrollable urge
To touch you
I want so much to be close
When I see you glance my way
The look pierces my heart
And takes my breath away
I want to let you know
When I leave you for work
I want to run back for you
And beg you not to let me go
A tender kiss goodbye is all I ask
When I see you
I want to show
How much I care
A kiss, a touch to let you know
When I see you
May I touch your hand
And kiss your lips to show
That I miss you when I go"
