I completed this project in 1994.
I bought the car in 1990. I traded a 69 AMX even up for the Chevy II. The
AMX was in poor condition & spent it's life on the dragstrip I
bought the AMX for $400 and traded it for the Nova the next day. The guy
I swapped with was an AMC fan. We both got what we wanted, and saved the
Chevy II from becoming a Strip only car. I pulled the original 6cyl/auto.
I built a 1970 350 .030 with forged pistons, Dart heads, Crane cam,1.6rollerrockers
750 Holley, then attached a Doug Nash 5spd. I also installed a Ford 9"
rear from a Cushman 3 wheel utility vehicle. That's right! Some Cushmans
came stock with 9" Ford rear ends. This one was even posi! Non nodular
case, but hey, i can't get everything.
I offsetted rear wheels with 4 7/8" back
spacing to fit in the wheel wells without having to alter body or move
in frame rails then added 14" M&H street cheater tires. Subframe connecters
& Hooker fenderwell headers were added. Front brakes are 69 Camaro
disks. I tried to keep the appearance stock as possible. Bucket seats and
interior kit for a 63 SS. I did the body and paint work myself. I painted
it with Sherwin Williams Ultra 7000 basecoat and Montana urethane clearcoat.
I would like to find a complete set of body side moldings for a 62-64 SS
or Nova400 that are in excellent shape. Let me know...thanks. I wish I
would have taken before photos. |
