Shoko Hikage began playing koto at the age of three. Shoko's first teacher was Chizuga Kimura of the Ikuta-ryu Sokyoku Seigen Kai. In 1985, Shoko took the special lessons from 2nd IEMOTO Seiga Adachi and 3rd IEMOTO Seiga Adachi of the Ikuta-ryu Sokyoku Seigen Kai. In 1988, she graduated from Takasaki College with a major in koto music and she was accepted as a special research student in Sawai Sokyoku-in under Tadao Sawai and Kazue Sawai, where she subsequently received her master's certificate. She also completed one0year intensive seminar at the Sawai Sokyoku-in. In 1992, she moved to Honolulu Hawaii to teach koto at the Sawai Koto Kai Hawaii. Today, she resides in San Francisco and performed regularly in solo and in collaboration with other artists throughout the world. |
