Shoeless Women's Small Groups

"Walking through life with a good pair of shoes,

is like walking through life with good friends."

The Shoeless group started by two friends meeting once a week at a coffee house to discuss a book.  Then we realized that we each knew someone else that wanted to feel as if they “fit in” with a small group.  In July 2005, those two friends each invited someone, and those people invited more people and the group met at a coffee house to get to know each other.  As the group few they began meeting at each other’s houses.  One night someone noticed that all the ladies in the group had their shoes off as they were hanging out sitting on couches in someone’s home, and that is how they acquired the group name “Shoeless.”

In January 2006 the women involved in the Shoeless group realized that the group was getting quite large (14 women total) and that branching the group into smaller groups would be a good idea.  4 branches of Shoeless formed with Shoeless Nights Out being the time where all the women can get together and hang out.

Here are some things that we have done with each other.

  • Help each other move
  • Go to coffee or lunch with each other during the week
  • Stress that things are confidential within the group
  • Throw birthday celebrations and baby showers for each other
  • Challenge each other to find ways to apply what we are studying to our lives
  • Went on a three day retreat at a cabin in Estes Park
  • Help each other with childcare
  • Have days/nights designated for just FUN
  • Be conscious of new women joining the group and try to give background to topics discussed at previous meetings so that they feel included
  • Try to be very welcoming to new women that join our group
  • Have a buddy to vent to if you have a bad day
  • Send each other encouraging emails during the week
  • Send e-cards to new members that join our group
  • Have a snack (one sweet and one salty) at each meeting
  • Rotate meeting at each other’s houses
  • Take time at meetings to share Praises and Prayer Requests
