| Lynsey: Do you think it's harder to be an east coast band, than a band from Ontario? Derek: Ya, especially with the Halifax poster laws, um, Halifax, now that we have a new mayor, they started a new crazy law where you're not allowed putting posters up anywhere, so it's really hard to advertise. Brian: Most people don't, most people don't follow it, but the problem is, there's heavy fines if you get caught. It seems, especially in the east coats, where there's not much of a population base to begin with, where your fighting just to get people to come to shows and the city its' self is working extra over time against you, so your not only trying to get your music out there, but you're trying to get it out there without getting in shit with the law at the same time, so.... Derek: There's a way bigger scene in Ontario obviously too, but the internet has helped a lot with us anyway, regardless where you are, you can be heard all over the world and emails are kinda replacing poster now, so.. Jonathan: I think that the biggest problem with being a band on the east coast is that, the town we're from, Halifax, well Dartmouth, but around the town of Halifax, there's tons of bands, we were at the Cafe Ole or The Pavilion once and the owner should me, he had over 1,000 bands on his contact list, ok? Now the problem is, everybody's in a band. And when you play in a band, your too busy making your own music and stuff; and you're practicing and you don't have the time to go out and see an other band with what they're working on, so you're in a place like Ontario where there's more fans instead of more people in bands, so I think it would be easier to get a fan base there. Derek: Or or here (Donovan laughs) Jonathan: Where in Halifax everyone plays in a band. Lynsey: Do you plan on moving to Ontario or anything? Derek: No Brian: Not in the near future Derek: Nothing like that. Lynsey: If you knew that the world was going to end in 24 hours, what would you want to do in those 24 hours? (lots of laughing) Derek: I don't think I can say it. (long pause) One word....Donovan. No, ah.... Jonathan: I'd probably run around in a field for the 24 hours. Derek: It sounds corny, but I'd just want to be around my friends and family and stuff so, since we're a tightly knit community of friends. Brian: I dunno Mike: I'd just go around breaking stuff (we all laugh) Brian: Oh ya, ya, no, I'd have to agree, I'd break stuff and participate in massive orgies. Derek: Underneath his shy exterior, Mike is actually like a really crazy...(store owner interupts and sentence is never finished) Brian: Mike's actually a hard core anarchist, underneath that shy facade Derek: He's wanted in 47 states, for anarchist. Donovan: Tax fruad Brian: Tax invasion Lynsey: What's the weirdest thing you guys ever did as a band? Jonathan: (kind laughs) Oh it was defiantly yesterday, but we're not going to get into it Derek: what? Jonathan: It was filming Brian:Oh! No, no, no, no, no(and followed by some more nos) Jonathan: It was filming. We're not goin to talk about filming. Brian: No Jonathan: It just happened yesterday, we're not gonna go any further with it. Brian: No Derek: Donovan has it on tape, you can order it for $10 on our site. Brian: No you can't. No you can't. (hmm is Brian hinding something?) jonathan: there'll be a clip up on the internet soon. (Donovan is laughing very hard at this point) Brian: No there won't. Lynsey: ok.....? (wondering what's going on) Donovan: We'll trade, we'll give you a shot of Chris. (starts to laugh) Alright. Derek: We do weird stuff in our shows, last....Chris who? Donovan: Chris Wood our drummer. Derek: Oh (Donovan laughs) Everytime we play, we try to do something different for the crowd, not just for their enjoyment, but so we don't bored, last night we played, it was one of my favorite things we ever did, we never done it before. There's a break in one of our songs and it's basically just the same cord, and we got people to come up out of the crowd that kinda knew how to play guitar, and we gave them our guitars and gave them our bass and we got a drummer, someone who played drums to come up and they all played together. There was a little girl and a bunch of guys and then we just walked off stage and watched them, that was fun. Lynsey: Have you finished filming 'Russell Street',or have you started? Derek: It's still in the planning stages. Jonathan: We already kinda shot it, but it's shot on 8mm low quality film and we're going to go out and shoot it on a digital.... Brian: With Much East not exsisting anymore, there's not as much as a push to get stuff done, cause there was always that scare that Much East would stop. Derek: All though Much Music does asures us that the same attention will be payed to bands... Lynsey: Don't trust them. Brian: On the east as in Ontario Derek: Except every episode of Much East was like Ted Nugent at the Metro Center (Don Laughs) Brian: Or Danco Jones Derek: Alough I enjoy Ted Nugent, he's a character he wasn't really representative of the local seas. Lynsey: If you could record with any artist who would it be and why? Derek: If we could sorry? Lynsey: Record with any artist. Brian: Sit in record with them like be a musician sit in? Lynsey: ya |
