| Lynsey: What are you feelings on Much East being cancelled? Derek: Oh I think, I don't know, I don't think I sent me email out to everybody, but I sent some nasty emails to a whole bunch of people and, um, I don't know, the hardest thing about it is you can't do anything about it, so, there's nothing you can do. And actually just about the clay people, I don't know if Jon said it cause I wasn't really paying attention, but uh, like I was thinking that I wanted us to name the album 'life imates art' for many metaphorical reasons and uh, the cover, i thought those men kind of were uh, you know, it's kinda a metaphorica, there are a lot of people who look at the cd cover and say um, that you know, which one are you because they don't see it because I set them up in my room with a flood light behind them and so you can just see the shadows, and it just kind of blurs the line between art and life and it's all deep and metaphorical. Brian: Oh your so philisophical. Derek: Yeah, it makes me want to cry, I have to stop talking. Lynsey: Do any of you have a good luck charm? Derek: Good luck charm? Jonathan: Mike wears a thong on stage. Derek: Every show. Mike: Mmmm no.None of that. No I don't think so really. (Brian says something in the background about wearing a G string) Derek: No. We just hope that we won't screw up. you mean like when we play shows so we don't screw up or just... Brian: We have Donovan Derek: We rub Donovan's head. (Donovan laughs) Donovan is from Flush and uh, PEI's own Flush and he's our roady. He decided to quit Flush and he's going to carry our gear around. Brian: He knows where the talent's at. Derek: He's going to carry my guitar from now on. Lynsey: What's your most embarassing moment on stage? Brian: Whoa. Derek: I'd say the whole show; all the time Brian: It's pretty bad. Jonathan: The most embarassing point is when you plan something out before the show and you think it's going be the most amazingest thing, people are going to be struck by it......when a crowd doesn't respond the way you think. Derek: She means a single moment though, has anything happened. Jonathan: There's times and moments when you screw up. Derek: The first show I ever played with shoebox, (the band members all agree and some laughs are made) was at the last 'Cafe Ole' show and we still had the other bassist in the band, so I was playing guitar........ Brian: There were five of us on stage. Derek: .........so there were like 8 guitars going or something and my pedal, my distortion pedal, kept screwing up and all I did was I just fought with it the whole time and I didn't even face the crowd. Brian: And this was when we were still trying to figure out if we wanted to bring him into the band. He sat there and kicked his gear for half the set and we were like, we walked off the stage and we were like 'oh my god' so, but somehow he still landed in the band. How did that happen? Derek: That was the best thing that ever happened to these three guys. Brian: Ya (lots of laughs) Lynsey: How come you guitars are all red? Is that a coincident or just cause? Jonathan: They're not anymore, I just bought a new guitar. It was a big coincident. Mike: Ya. Brian: I never realized that. Derek: And your drum set's red too Brian: And my drums are red too Derek: And the cover of the cd is red too. Lynsey: Is that a band color? Derek: No, not really. We have blue, our web site is blue and I dunno. Brian: Our first cd was a blue filter. Derek: That was just a fluke with the guitars and bass. Lynsey: Do you have any other PEI shows this summer? Derek: Hopefully Brian: Ah...hopefully Derek: Hopefully this guy sets us up with some. our roady here' he's got some connections Donovan: I'm actually trying to get them a gig for the end of the summer. Lynsey: All ages? Donovan: Yep, Of course, of course. Lynsey: Good! (laughs) Who has been your biggest influence? Brian: It's individual I'd say. There's no over all for the band. Derek: Well mostly, 'Sloan' and 'Thurst Hermit" are in our song writing, everybody listens to different types of music, but our songs I think... Jonathan: and oasis and Travis Derek: It's just what your listening to. you kinda sub-consciously emulate what you're listening to. Jonathan: Pink Floyd. |
