Finally I meet them

1500h
Mood: pretty good
Fact of the day: Japan is divided into two general regions, the western side, where Kyoto is, is known as the Kansai region, while the eastern side where Tokyo is, is known as the Kanto region.
event of the week: Back to uiuc tomorrow.

Last night was one of the most fun nights I've had in Kyoto. My brother brought me out to meet some Japanese people, who have been learning English from him, actually. Apparently they meet about once a month to have dinner together, practise speaking english, then go on to sing karaoke.

There was Mina, who's the only girl, and also the youngest. So sweet looking, yet sort of blur looking at the same time, she really reminds me of Anqi, this senior I had during my huang cheng days. Man, they even smile the same way, touch the hair the same way when they're embarrassed and such. She warmed up to me very quickly and was one of the people who very kindly translated some of their conversation for me, when they were speaking Japanese.

The other people were all guys, mostly either doctors or medicine students. Probably because they felt a greater need to know English than the average student, I guess. But they were all great fun to be with. They were very kind to me too, asking me a lot of questions and generally including me in their conversations. There was the 30-year-old doctor, who liked to start off conversations with "Hey Cindy, so...." Maybe it's the way he waves his hand when he says it, maybe it's the way he says it, he always manages to make me laugh, before I answer his questions anyway.

The dinner was a course of, they told me, Kansai type cuisine, which was supposedly saltier than the Kanto type. We were sitting on cushions on the floor, and thank god, I didn't have to sit in the same position the whole time. This was one thing I was very curious about, actually, how Japanese women are supposed to sit *that way* all the time. Aha! I found out that they don't! Heh. We also had a few drinks, I had some sparkly fruity thing, that turned out to be quite potent, unexpectedly. Very embarrassing, my face turned quite red. Such that one of the guys later asked me if I get drunk often. HAhahahaha...horrible..

I couldn't really sing Japanese songs at the karaoke, so I was singing English songs all the time. There were Madarin songs, but it'll be rude to sing something they didn't understand. So I was singing all those oldies, like Yesterday Once More, Rhythm Of The Rain, and so on. Hahaha..almost like my primary school talentine days. I probably could have tried one of the Mariah Carey numbers, but hey, I didn't want to embarrass myself anymore. Won't want them to think I was a freaking drunkard who can't sing, as if just being a drunkard is not bad enough. HAhahahahhaa.....

I like those people. I wish I met them earlier. One of them offered to bring me around, until I told him that I was to go back in 2 days time. Oh well... They're all Kansai people, and supposedly, Kansai people are more friendly than Kanto people. I can really believe that.
