SCHENECTADY HOME IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (S.H.I.P.)
The Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority (SMHA) administers a housing repair program, the Schenectady Home Improvement program (SHIP) for the City of Schenectady. This grant program is funded with money the SMHA receives from the City of Schenectady. Funds are provided for: * Emergency Repairs, including heating systems, water mains, sewer laterals, roofing and qualified non-maintenance deteriorated conditions. * General Repairs, including interior and exterior repairs to meet Housing Quality Standards. To be eligible you must own and be living in your house, in the CITY of Schenectady, New York, for a least ninety (90) days. Your City taxes, school taxes and homeowner's insurance must be paid to date. The amount of the grant is based on your total household income and the amount needed for repairs. Assistance is provided to low income applicants anywhere in the City of Schenectady. Moderate or high income applicants must live within a target area. Specifications are written by our staff and put out for bid to approved contractors. Contracts are awarded to the low bidder whose bid price is within 15% of the SHIP cost estimate. Progress payments are made as authorized by our construction inspector. Click on the appropriate link to inquire about eligibility, Contractor questions, and progress of projects.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN OUR PROGRAM
