Bebop Character Bios: Spike Spiegel

Spike is a playboy. No doubt about it. But when I mean playboy, I don't mean having women as much as commanding a presence (although the women do flock to him). Spike's dangerous lifestyle and eccentric personality create a sort of charisma that allowed him to find such a group of people. Spike, although he may not admit it, enjoys the company of such other eccentrics that have come into his life. Throughout most of the show, he chooses to forget about his sad and turbulent past that has haunted him. Even though Spike never did solve his issues with the Red Dragon syndicate, Vicious, and Julia, he manages to move ahead with his life finding new friends. But, unfortunately, as life brings him back to Mars, he cannot escape his destiny, as Vicious would say. His eyes example that. "One eye is stuck in the past while the other sees the future." Certain events drag Spike back and in the end, he cannot resist his need to finalize his love with Julia, either good or bad. Once Julia passes away, Spike finally recognizes his main passion throughout these years, who just died. Then, since Red Dragon is gone, Spike only has one more fear to face to be free. While returning to the stars after he and Vicious deal mortal blows to each other, Spike finds happiness remembering Julia's final words, "It's all just a dream."
