| Chapter 8 Lexa looked around the floor and noticed Nick leading some blond. She watched him place his hands low on her hips and pull her body closer to his. In response, Lexa pressed her body closer to Zach's. This back and forth, one upmanship competition continued between Nick and Lexa for a few songs. As Lexa moved her hands further down Zach's back, Nick did the same with Alicia. Neither partner had any clue what part they were playing in the little game. 'Nobody wants to be lonely' came over the sound system and Lexa felt Zach's lips against her skin. Nick saw this and leaned down to kiss Alicia, never taking his eyes off of Lexa's. She felt hot tears forming in her eyes and suddenly she pulled away from Zach, wiping at her eyes. "Um, I think I need some air." "I can come with you," Zach said, holding on to her arm. "No, no, I'll be okay." With that Lexa headed for the door. Nick witnessed it all, and saw Lexa leave, holding back tears. Quickly he pulled away from Alicia. Without a word to her, he followed Lexa out the door. Once outside, he could still here the music pumping in the club. Nobody wants to be lonely Nobody wants to cry My body's longing to hold you So bad it hurts inside Time is precious and its slipping away And I've been waiting for you all of my life Nobody wants to be lonely So why don't you let me love you? Nick finally caught up to Lexa in the middle of the parking lot. He grabbed her by the arm and spun her around. The first thing he noticed was her red, blotchy face, a result of the tears falling from her eyes. "What's wrong?" "What's wrong? What's wrong?! I ask you to dance and you say 'not right now.' Five minutes later you are out on the floor getting busy with some blond bimbo. Gee, I don't know what could possibly be wrong." "Its not like you weren't having any fun yourself. What do you care who I was dancing with, you found someone new in no time." "I danced with him because you wouldn't!" Lexa could feel her face get hot. She wasn't upset anymore, now she was just pissed off. No way was he getting away with pinning this on her. "And what were you doing kissing on that girl? Do you have any intention of ever seeing her again?" She was pushing his buttons. Nobody ever called him on picking up random girls at bars and using his celebrity status to pick up girls. In fact, the other guys were usually proud of him. "What? I was just kissing her." "You were leading her on. Do you do that a lot?" "And what if I do?" Lexa was stumped. Why did she care so much? He wasn't her problem. If he wanted a different girl every night, so be it. It just limited their relationship to the role of friends. "You know what, you're right, its none of my business. Forget I said anything." Lexa pushed her way past Nick and went to enter the club when she felt Nick's hands on her shoulders. Slowly she turned around, her eyes never leaving the ground. "What now?" She asked bitterly, wanting to be left alone. "I like you Lexa." Lexa held her breath, waiting for the but, 'but I want to be friends' or 'but I'm still in love with my ex.' Instead the but never came. "I like you too." Lexa looked up into Nick's eyes, her own weak and bloodshot from her tears. A smile passed Nick's lips and brought a small one to Lexa's. "Well, now that that's out of the way, what do we do now?" "Um, we could go back into the club." "Or we could leave and go back to my place." Lexa took a small step back from Nick. "Whoa there buddy. I think that's moving a little too quick?" Nick cut her off; he knew where this was going. "Nothing like that, get your mind out of the gutter. Just to talk, since it seems like we have plenty to discuss." "Oh, okay. That's sounds good. I'll go tell Ang and AJ we are leaving." Lexa returned a few minutes later and Nick was waiting for her by the passenger side door of his Durango. "Am I driving?" Lexa asked, raising her eyebrows and smiling. "Not quite," Nick answered as he opened the door for her and he placed himself between her and the car. "Can I kiss you?" "Is that the toll?" Her face was centimeters from his. Nick shook his head yes. "Well I guess I have no choice then." Nick placed a hand on either cheek of Lexa's face and slowly brought his lips to hers. Cautiously, Lexa brought her hands to Nick's face and ran her fingers through his hair. Before the kiss deepened, Nick pulled away, leaving Lexa a bit confused. "Ready to go ma'am?" Nick asked, clearing the way for Lexa to get in the car. "Yeah." Lexa climbed in the seat and Nick closed the door behind her. Lexa stood in the doorway of Nick's home in awe. Sure, her house was quite large, but there were four people living there. His house was about the same size and it was only for him. Slowly she walked to the kitchen area, where Nick was pouring them a drink. "I just remembered that you have never been here before." "Yeah, first time. It's a really beautiful home." Nick handed her a cup. "Thanks." He walked over to his couch and sat down. Lexa followed him closely. After a moment of awkward silence, Lexa spoke up. "So, about you and me?" "Yeah, that's kind of why we came here." "Ya know, I'm not sure if this is such a good idea," Lexa said quietly, unsure of her own voice. She was planning and thinking again; Ang would kill her. "Why do you say that?" "Well, cause you are just getting out of a relationship and I'm only here for the summer and?" "Wait a minute, Mandy is in no way, shape or form going to keep me from being happy anymore, so drop the rebound crap. What is the real reason you want to walk away?" Chapter 9 Home |
