What
do I look for in a fan fiction?
Well, a lot of things. ^_^
Action/adventure/drama/romance,
but also angst, fluff, and so on.
I like many (if not almost all) genres, but squicks.. no thank you.
Things that gives you adrenaline are great, though. Sap and fluff
makes me happy, angst offers me a good cry. But note: too much of
something is almost never a good thing.
Multiparts are good, as well as arcs. The
absolutely best thing is long stories, with enough parts to make
you really care about what you are reading.
Oneshots are mostly fluffy, especially if they are short but there
are angsty oneshots that I enjoy too. ^_^
Ratings. I
read most of the stuff, but I can admit it - in
a long, good arcs I don't read the lemons. They're, well, boring
when I want to read the story. Lemons just take up place. I'm sure
a lot of people can argue with me on that point, but this is just
what I think, not what everyone else do.
POV, third person..? All of it, though it
is easier to start to read a third person POV- story.
Still, first person POVs are great, take Acherontia Atropos and
the Ion-series as an example. ^_^ Third persons are just easier
to start reading.
Clichées? In humorous stories it can
be fun but puh-lease, don't over do it!
If I have to read another story that ends with "Heero,
my hero" or where Duo paints Nataku pink, then I'm going to..
I don't know. A cliché in an otherwise well-written story
is acceptable.
Male-pregnancy, cross-dressing, female-Duo/or
other pilot? Give the poor guys a break, will ya?
I admit that this thing can be fun to read, just to see what the
author have done with it, but it is also mostly crap a/o cliché.
Pairings.
Since Duo is my favourite character,
then he has to be a main character, even though
he doesn't *have* to be paired with anyone, it is a plus. 1x2
is my great favourite, but 3x2,
4x2, 13x2, 6x2 is also good. 5xS or M is also a
favourite but for some reason I don't like 3x4/4x3 much. *shrugs*
I've also started to like HxR for some strange reason, since I'm
not a big fan of Relena. Must have something to do with the fact
that I wrote a HxR a while back. . .
Maaya's
Big Turnoffs in Fan Fictions
- 'Hee-chan' if used as 'koi' and in a serious situation, meaning
it's not used as a joke.
- 'Heero, my hero', if used in the same situation as above. Even
worse if used as an ending-line.
- Someone spells Duo's name 'Dou' more than once in a chapter.
- Male-pregnancy. Come on, guys! It's just so lame, and not to say
impossible. But to be fair, I've read two stories with this concept
I really enjoyed it. But then again, I kept telling myself there
was a girl somewhere who had given birth to the child.
- SandrockxWufei or something like that. What is the authors smoking
when they write something like that?
- Heero acting like a really emotional, shy school-girl. Sorry people,
but I really don't like Heero as the 'submissive' partner.
- Wufei 'rants' about justice, how weak he/women is, or nosebleeds
when he has hentai-thoughts.
- Everyone being completely, absolutely sex-crazy. Hey, where's
the love?
- 'Everything I love dies'. This has to be the most used line in
the entire fandom! Be creative, guys!
- Wufei as the complete uber-uke. Either he's a chauvinist or an
emotional, girlish uke. Why not normal for once?
- 3xC I'm a firm believer in that Trowa and Catherine is siblings,
and can therefore not be together in a sexual relationship! Jeez,
they even call ech other 'sister' or 'little-brother'. Why can't
you see the obvious? In AUs where they aren't siblings though, I
can accept it.
- Heero's name spelled 'Hiiro', like the American show seem to say.
*shrugs* I just don't like it.
- I guess a lot of people will argue about this one but. . . the
lemons in plot-filled series. *shrugs* I just want to read what's
going to happen, not see the guys boinking in an OZ-base while stealing
information.
- Gundam pilots, or any other person from the series, singing karaoke.
Especially when it is supposed to be angsty. The idea of seeing
Duo on stage in a bar, singing a cheesy, angsty love song to Heero
just really makes me dislike a fic.

Plagiarism. For obvious reasons. Of course, people can get inspiration
from other stories, but plagiarism is just too much, not to mention
unjust and not legal.
