I take a keen interest in our natural world. Geography was, and still is, my favorite subject in Secondary school. One of the results of this interest is a modest collection of minerals and semi-precious rocks. And another, is the love for travel and seeing new sights and wonders. I am a member of the Nature Society of Singapore, an association that takes heed to the state of the environment in our island-state. I love most animals, except insects that enjoy flying into my face. I have kept many pets over the years and one of my successes was a baby swordtail that I raised to adolescence. I love the heady green aroma from vegetation after rainfall and magnificent landscapes that tell of God's wonder and power. This was part of the reason I took up photography and joined the Photography Club in Nanyang Polytechnic. You can peruse my amateurish attempts here.

I hardly exercise, one of the areas of my life that I am trying to discipline. When I do, my favorite activities are swimming, cycling, though I'm rather unstable, and brisk walking or jogging. I have climbed Mount Ophir and  I enjoy watching sports like soccer and ice-skating. I have obtained a basic certification for swimming and achieved silver for the National Physical Fitness Award twice, once in Primary 6 and another in Secondary 4.

I am an avid reader. I absolutely love to read. Most of my free time is spent reading or in a bookshop. I was introduced to books at an early age, my mother loved to read to me. I also took part in reading programs in primary school. But it was not until upper primary, when I was about 11 years old, that I started making use of the school's library to widen my horizons. After that, I was so hooked on books that I joined library as a Co-Curricular Activity in Secondary School.

I like to watch period dramas, Chinese "wuxia pian", or martial art period dramas, adaptations of English literature and myths & legends, Japanese anime and the occasional movie. To date, my favorite movie is the Passion of Christ with the Lord of the Rings trilogy coming in a close second. My interest in Japanese anime and culture was also what prompted me to join Nanyang Polytechnic's Sakuran Club. I was a member for a year.

I was chosen, at the end of my first semester at the polytechnic, to join this student interest group. A group of us, you can see our picture in the gallery, organized the Oratorical Competition 2001/02 and also the recruitment drive for the interest group. I left them after a year and they are now called Spice.
