REVIEWS OF THE LATEST 1 TRACK PROMO: GUTTERMOUTH

The latest release from Brit metal underground stalwarts Razorwire. Recently Razorwire entered the studio to record 3 new tracks for their debut album. They worked with legendary producer Bag (Napalm Death, amongst others). 'Guttermouth' is a one track sample CD from these sessions. First impressions are favorible. The sound quality is vastly superior to any previous Razorwire material. Right from the start, there is clear definition between the instruments, with the drums sounding particulary good. Credit is also due to vocalist Chris Minney, who continues to improve with each succesive release. The song itself is a suitably crunchy metal number, easily one of the best Razorwire tracks so far written. Fans of their earlier material will not be disapointed, as it is clearly Razorwire, but the increased production values lend the song a more contempary edge.

“Guttermouth” contains only one song, it clocks in at just less than five minutes and manages to span practically every style of Heavy rock from the past 30 years. Quite an achievement in one song especially as despite all this jumping about in style “Guttermouth” still holds your attention and even leaves you wanting more. Whether all of Razorwire’s songs are this strong I have no idea, but I’m at the very least intrigued.

REVIEWS OF THE LATEST SINGLE: LOSE MY HEAD

This is a very short disc, 7 min and 37 sec. of music divided in two songs. The band sounds a little like the harder Channel zero songs, with a mix of rap in it. Also I hear some influences of Dearly Beheaded. The first song starts heavy with all instruments and some grunting and raps. After a couple of times playing this particular song it even sounded catchy.
The second song is better in my opinion, the grunt and rap are together and it sounds very OK. It’s nothing new, but it sounds all right. And isn’t that what it’s all about? Probably this band will fit as nice support act for bands such as One Minute Silence or Kill II This. I’m looking forward to a full CD.

I like this, it reminds me of the non-successful but fantastic Salem Justice, who the old school tape traders may remember. In real life terms, it's a bit Alice in Chains, kind of aggressive but laid back at the same time. The second track, Only Son is fantastic. Melodic, but hard hitting. My only real complaint is that it's all a bit drawn out, but then again, I like Maiden, and they never wrote short tracks! 8/10. Razorwire are from Stoke on Trent, and are definitely worth keeping an eye on.
