| The candy cane has a very interesting story behind it. The story is as follows: Once a man was making candy and a piece fell and got bent. The shape was that of a J and reminded the man of the name of "Jesus".� Then when he flipped it over, it looked like a shepherds crook, thus, reminding him of the shepherds on that Holy night of Christ's birth. | The three stripes represent the stripes Jesus suffered before his death. They also represent the crosses on Golgotha. The two thin stripes represents the two thieves on their crosses on either side and the thickest stripe represents Christ. The shepherds crook represents the Christ because Jesus is the Great Shepherd, just as we are his lambs. In my family we often use candycanes as decorations on our Christmas tree. For my family it is a more visible reminder of "the reason for the season". |
