Today, we drove north, the views getting more intensely beautiful,
as we approached Makana Mt. (Bali Hai), across dozens of one-laned
bridges. The layers of lush vegetation in different shades of green
were glorious. We walked through the grassy park and across a wide
stretch of beach. The waves were more gentle than on other days,
but still somewhat of a challenge to stand in. The swimming was
effortless, in the salt water. Steve and I swam out to sea until
we were too tired to swim any farther. Then, we floated effortlessly,
looking over our toes to the towering layers of lush vegetation
on land, until we'd regained the strength to swim back to shore.
We noticed that you neither get chilly getting into or out of the
water. The air, water, and wind all seem to be body temperature.
(OK, but it you get away from the water or the wind dies down,
that sun can be hot and sticky!) We lunched at the Tropical Taco
truck in the parking lot, where they made truly exceptional chicken
and fish sandwiches. Then we strolled down the beach nearly to
the point: an area known as Tunnels Beach, where we swam with big,
beautiful fish until we were exhausted.
