56) This is the drivers compartment more or less finished. The fire extinguisher I found in Australia!

57) This is the co-drivers side. The silver box is a British pamphlet box which was and still is a standard fitment to British AFV's.

58) Left-hand rear area showing fire extinguishers and auxiliary generator.

59) RH rear of the fighting compartment showing fuel tap levers, air cleaner, ammo rack and odd stowage items.

60) I was faced with making a complete new turret basket for the Sherman as all the remains I had removed from range tanks were scrap. I had previously drawn a full set of manufacturing drawings which had solved all the problems but it was still a big job taking about 14 days work. This shows the basket framework upon initial assembly. I built it up on the turret ring to ensure accuracy.

61) This is the finished article after painting, but before fitting out.

62) I stripped and rebuilt the turret ring which was in surprisingly good condition inside. All 150 1 1/4" balls were usuable.

63) Time to fit the basket. At this point the hull interior suddenly got very small! My good friend James is sitting in 'his' seat.....

64) After fitting and most fittings present. This is the view to the front.

65) View to the rear.
