SHERIFF

Larry was born in 1954 in Middletown, NY. He graduated from Monroe - Woodbury High School in 1973. From there he worked as a mechanic and manager of a local muffler shop. In 1978 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and embarked on a miliary career. In 1984 he was stationed at Minot Air Force Base and served as a weapons instructor until 1992 when he voluntarily left the service to pursue a career in the log home industry.

In 1994 he changed careers and went to the University of North Dakota Lake Region Peace Officer Training Academy to pursue a life long ambition of becoming a law enforcement officer.

In 1995 he was hired as a Deputy with the McHenry County Sheriff's Dept. and was stationed there until 1997 when he was asked to take the position of Chief Deputy at the Sheridan County Sheriff's Dept. He held that position until 1999 when he was elected Sheriff.

Sheriff Gessner is married and has one son. He is a Board member of Sheridan County Economic Development Committee and is actively involved in trying to bring new businesses to Sheridan County.

He is a member of Sheridan County in Partnership with Youth (SCIPY).

He is a youth advisor for the Eight Links Youth Mentoring Group.

He also serves as Adjutant for American Legion Post 124 and is a member of the Post Honor Guard.
