Boy meets Girl
In March of 2001, Ed & his friends Rommel and Gil were working out at the Spa Fitness Center, when Dee-Dee Melchor invited them to a social gathering for the Honolulu Filipino Junior Chamber of Commerce at the Hawaiian Waters Adventure Water Park. When they learned that the Miss Oahu Filipina Pageant queens and contestants were among the invited, they gladly accepted her invitation. They all circled April 21, 2001 on each of our calendars and began working out even harder. After all of the working out and dieting, the day of the gathering finally arrived. While at the water park, Sheri-Lyn, the reigning Miss Oahu Filipina 2000 at the time, approached Edward and asked if he wanted to be her escort for the upcoming Miss Oahu Filipina Pageant 2001 in June. Ed mistakenly thought she was asking him to be a contestant in a 'male pageant.' To his surprise, He realized it was not to be a contestant, but to be Sheri-Lyn's escort. Ed happily accepted her invitation and from then on they became very good friends. And the rest is history.
The Engagement
October 4th, 2002 was Sheri-Lyn's 22nd
birthday and Ed wanted to make it a very memorable
one. He made dinner reservations at the Hano Hano
Room, located atop the Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort that overlooks
Waikiki Beach and has Diamond Head as it's Backdrop. After a beautiful dinner, they went for
a moonlit walk on the beach. While walking along
the beautiful shore, Ed began to look for a secluded spot to ask Sheri-Lyn the 'big question.' Once he found the perfect spot, they
sat on the sand and enjoyed each others company. On
the walk back, Ed made Sheri-Lyn walk ahead of him a
little. As she turned around to see where he was, to
her surprise, Ed was on one bended knee with a diamond
ring in his hand. He asked Sheri-Lyn to marry him. Her
eyes filled with tears of joy as she said, 'Yes!' The following
morning, they announced our engagement to their parents
bringing joyful tears to their eyes.
