Students receive one unit for passing this course. (Pre-Requisite: C or Above in Pre-Algebra) GEOMETRY: Geometry is a course in deductive and inductive reasoning taught through the application of the properties of 2 and 3 dimensional figures. This will include working with points, lines, planes, parallels, perpendiculars, figures, area, and volume. Students receive one unit for passing this course. Please Note: If a student takes Enriched Geometry in the ninth grade, their 8th grade Algebra I grade remains on their high school transcript and receives a weighted credit The grade will figure into the overall GPA. In addition, they receive weighted credit for the Enriched Geometry grade. If a student retakes Algebra I in the ninth grade, the 8th grade score is replaced by the ninth grade score. However, the grade is NOT a weighted grade and receives only the normal weight. This material will serve the learner in preparing him/her for advanced concepts explored in both the life and physical sciences. Students will design and conduct experiments; collect, organize, and analyze data; make predictions and inferences; develop models; and communicate results. In order to demonstrate a need for scienctific literacy, opportunities will be provided to make connections between science classroom activities and everyday life. Full year. Offered in the 8th grade as an enrichment class, offered also in the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th levels. BIOLOGY I: The laboratory and the inquiry method are a part of all Biology courses. The entire science faculty works from the idea that knowing about living creatures and the understanding of how our own bodies function should be a central force in deciding how men and women live their lives. Biology presents an introduction to cell theory, microbiology, botany, zoology, ecology, anatomy, and physiology. All of this knowledge and understanding is offered with careful scrutiny to the interplay of hypothesis, theory, and observed facts. This class is offered in the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th levels. ENRICHED BIOLOGY I: Enriched Biology is a year long laboratory course that stresses scientific method, problem-solving, investigation-inquiry, models, research, and group discussions. In addition to the topics covered in biology, biochemistry, cell metabolism, cell structure, cell reproduction, and genetics will be covered. Physical Science is required, and students must also meet enrichment criteria |
