| What Is It that Your Church Believes? Perhaps one of the best words to describe Lutherans is that they are "catholic." Maybe that sounds strange, but the original meaning of that word with a small "c" means "universal." Lutherans believe that they confess the faith of the very first Christians, the universal faith that God intended to be handed down through the apostles, the church fathers, the Reformation, and today. Another word that can be used to describe Lutherans is "evangelical." That's another word that is used today to mean different things, but originally it spoke of the first Lutherans. As Lutheran Christians, we are committed to the proclamation of the pure saving Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord through his death on the cross and his resurrection from the tomb. |
