Safe

Sane
There is a law that should be second nature to all BDSM'ers (but watch out for the wannabes). This law is plain common sence to me. It's called Safe, Sane, and Consensual. If one wants to stay away from prison, s/he should stay inside these limits, or this law.
Even though it should be second nature, it should also be the first or top thing on A/anyone's mind when it comes to BDSM play, and/or total power exchange relationships.
Safe
Safe means, in general, Dom/mes - Don't kill or hurt your submissive or slave.
Also, subs and slaves - Don't allow yourself in a situation (like an encounter with an obvious wannabe) where you, as a sub or bottom could get hurt or killed - intentionally or not.
For example, I would not recomend putting anything around a submissive or slaves neck (that is attatched to somthing solid) while suspending him/her. If the chains or rope that is holding him/her up should happen to break, then she may fall and snap her neck.
Sane
Sane means don't do anything crazy or stupid that would end up putting your partener into an insane asylum, or mental institution from being scarred for life.
For example, insanity might be considered as taking a sub or slave for a walk, downtown, in the middle of rushhour, on his/her collar and leash while buck naked.
Consensual
Consensual is just that, getting consent or permission to do anything sexually, physically or even mentally to someone else. If a sub fills out her BDSM checklist and checks off somthing as "willing to do", that would also be considered as a form of consent.
** Make sure the consent is clear and of sound mind, especially when involving an individual from outside the relationship.**
