Give Me A Bit Of The Rough Stuff

I am probably going to make myself very unpopular here, but I don’t think that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a terrific actor. He is so predictable. He makes his entrance like some latter-day Superman, kills all the bad guys, and saves the day, without a single injury to himself. Yeah, yeah, yeah! Same old thing with no surprises. I do however, love his films. Why? Because he comes up against the best movie villains. I hate violence in the real world, but I think that movie violence makes for great escape, and terrific entertainment. I love the villains because you never know what their next move is going to be. What adversity will they create next? With the good guys, you always know exactly what their next move is going to be. Actors like, Jack Nicholson, Christopher Walken, Gary Busey, really light up the movie screens with their bad-guy portrayals. They are wonderful at keeping you guessing, keeping you on the edge of your seat, with heart-stopping, nail-biting excitement. Not forgetting of course, the greatest all time actor when it comes to playing movie villains, Michael Ironside, (read my tribute to Michael on my personalised poems page.) All you guys are very scary, but thanks for all the thrills! If you are passionately excited by something unusual, why not tell me about it, and I will see if I can write a poem for you.

Give Me A Bit Of The Rough Stuff.
By Amanda Jay Clark.

Why is it when girls fall for film stars,
They fall for the pretty boys.
Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Mel Gibson?
I see them as nothing but toys.

Give me a bit of the rough stuff.
The villains with very black hearts.
The guys who produce all the action,
That play all the blood-thirsty parts.

The good guys are all so predictable.
Catching bad guys is all they do.
It’s the bad guys who cause the excitement,
Of every film I sit through.

Walken, Nicholson, and Ironside.
They’re creepy, yet know how to thrill,
As they cause chaos across the big screen,
Their main mission being to kill.

I detest brutality in real life,
But movie violence is great escape,
Whether I see it at the cinema,
Or at home on video tape.

A tingle runs right through my body.
And I sit on the edge of my seat,
As villains start causing Anarchy.
In my book, they just can’t be beat.

It’s inevitable that by the end credits,
The good guy is going to win.
But the bad guys, they never die easy,
They are made to pay for their sin.

I can’t help loving the outlaws.
The ones who are callously tough.
So you can keep the pretty boys for yourself.
Just give me my bit of rough!
