Come On Kids, Tidy That Room!
From what frustrated parents tell me, Come on kids, tidy that room, is the most used phrase in the English language, and also the most ignored. But, be honest, how many of us, when we were kids, kept our room tidy without having to be nagged to do it? And then, we didnt give in without the English languages most used reply, Aah Mum, do I have to? This is for frustrated mothers everywhere. If you have a message you are trying to get across to your kids, why not let me write a poem for them.
PS. I always kept my bedroom tidy. Honest. Oh yes I did. Oh, all right then. Like most kids, my room was a mess! But, its spotless now. Honest. Oh yes it . . .
Come On Kids, Tidy
That Room!
By Amanda Jay Clark.
Come on kids, tidy
that room.
Thats the third time Ive asked you today.
Anything left on the floor by tea time,
Im going to throw it away.
That shirt has been there since last Friday,
And that cup from the Friday before.
Theres mould on that plate by the window,
And I cant take the smell any more.
That beds not been made in a fortnight,
And I could write my name in the dust.
I cant even find your wardrobe,
And hoovering is a must.
Your carpet is ten inches thicker,
Than the day it was laid on the floor,
Theres a pile of clothes in that corner,
And thats not what corners are for.
Your school books are strewn on the tall boy.
How can you read them way up there?
There was once a table in this room,
But I cant see it anywhere.
Theres four pairs of shoes by the night-light,
With an odd, dirty sock in each one.
So get stuck in and start cleaning,
And dont stop the moment Im gone!
What about that pile of pop magazine?
Either throw them, or put them away.
Good grief, these pop stars look creepy,
What is it with pop stars today!
I dont like to nag and chastise you,
But youre as scruffy as a street bum.
Theres one more question that needs asking,
When did I turn into MY mum?
