In My Day

I am useless with computers. Anything more complicated than a video recorder, and I’m stuck. I got a computer a couple of years ago, but I still don’t know how it really works. Actually, it’s only been these last few months that I’ve decided to throw away my trusty old typewriter, and have a serious go at getting to grips with this thing. How am I doing? My twelve year old instructor says I’m doing just fine! Only kidding. I don’t have an instructor, but if I did, what’s the betting it would be a twelve year old kid who would look on me, and make me feel like a dinosaur! I’m sure that kids born today have one end of their umbilical cord connected to a computer. They seem to be born with the knowledge of how to use them. Well folks, I am making a serious effort now. If like me, you are a computer neophyte, e-mail me, and maybe we can learn, together.

In My Day.
By Amanda Jay Clark.

In my day, things were much simpler,
And I’m not going back very far.
These days with the chip and computer,
No one knows quite where they are.
We had a telly and record player,
But no video, or CD,
There was no such thing as the Internet,
That scares the hell out of me!
What is this data processor,
To be found at our finger tips?
In my day, to find information,
You formed a question with your lips.
Or you went to the public library,
To read a book, or two.
But these days with the super highway,
Information finds its way to you.
I’ve had a computer for two years now,
Though I still don’t know how it works,
But I’m told if I really study,
I’ll find many writers perks.
Is a computer big brother watching me?
That’s just one of the problems I’m seeing,
I’m having trouble with this modern age,
I must be older than I admit being!
How can I face the future,
If I can’t cope with what I have now?
I must find a cure my phobia?
To keep the sweat from wrinkling my brow.
What will we have in the future?
I hardly dare to think.
But if I don’t keep up with technology,
Instead of swimming, I’ll sink!
