Marine Conservation Expedition

I'M BACK !!!

I had an amazing time and would recommend it to anyone. As well as diving nearly every day, as part of either surveys or training, we helped teach English in the local primary school, stayed on an island and took part in a march for international women's day. My most memorable experiences were underwater ones, we disturbed a turtle on one dive and watched it swim gracefully past through the rows of majestic sea fans. I also did my first ever night dive (as part of Advanced Open Water training) which was both terrifying and exhilirating. Descending into dark water is the stuff of nightmares, but then everything is so beautiful it balances the fear of getting lost. There were red shrimp eyes glowing from every surface and all the corals looked alien and stunning.

Other than that the best experience was probably teaching English, as its something I would never have imagined myself doing - I have no real interest in working with children or languages! I really enjoyed the chance to practice French, as thats the other widely spoken language alongside Malgasy, and the satisfaction of being able to communicate with the people there.

Many, many thanks once again to everyone who has helped me with this, all your donations were very gratefully received and I couldn't have done it otherwise. You've made a difference to me, and to the children and fisherman of Andavadoak.

Click here to see some pictures of fish. More photos will be uploaded at some point - keep looking back, I will get around to it I promise!!
