On our year anniversary, Jacob and I decided to leave Albuquerque and spend a weekend in Durango, Colorado. We booked a hotel room and left all other plans unknown. After wandering the historic downtown streets, we stumbled upon a restaurant that we wanted to try. While waiting for our food, I asked Jacob an open ended question, What is something that you would like to do in the next year? After a few moments, he responded with I would like to marry my girlfriend. The first thing that came to my mind was, Is he talking about me? So then we began to talk about the idea of getting married in the next year. We talked about the friends and family that would join us and where we would want to get married. In my mind, I thought it was just an idea and that it would eventually happen but not anytime soon. However, I was yet to be fooled.

Valentines Day Weekend, We decided to do something mellow and inexpensive. We planned a picnic for Saturday afternoon after I got off of work. We picked up groceries the night before so we would be ready to pack everything up as soon as I got home. Out of all the days we could go for a picnic, we chose the day that it rained all day in New Mexico! We werent going to let a little rain stop us from our planned picnic. We packed up turkey sandwiches, fruit, chips, and of course a bottle of wine. Jacob took me by an old house that he grew up in at the foothills of the mountains and we decided to have our picnic under the overhang on the playground across the street. After eating, talking, and getting a little wet, he asked me if I would like to walk up the arroyo to look over the edge. Feeling adventurous, I said yes. Walking to the top without an umbrella, we began to get pretty wet. Then while I was looking over, he got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and asked if I would marry him. I put my hand over my mouth because I was in shock, but of course I said, Yes! Then I couldnt tell if I was crying or if it was the rain soaking my face. He gave me a piggy back ride on the way down the hill and told me that his family was very happy that I was going to be a part of the family.
