What Does Agape Mean?
When the New Testament was written, a word was needed that would describe Gods love. Using the Greek verb agapao (which means to totally give yourself over to something) as their basis, a new noun was created: Agape, meaning Gods pure (unconditional) and divine love. (Its pronounced A-gah-PAY.)

While agapao is used in the Bible to express love (or a giving over of oneself") to many thingsincluding the world, money, and lustagape is never used except to express Gods unconditional love for us or Gods command for us to love each other unconditionally.
