Share Agape
for the week of October 27, 2003
A Quick Note

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Share Agape poll. Your opinions and suggestions are most helpful!

After a lot of thought, and a review of your opinions, I've decided to begin sending out Share Agape on a bi-weekly basis. This will make it more possible for the quality of each issue of Share Agape to stay high, and it will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed by emails.

Most sincerely,
Kristina

Idiot's Guide To Life On Earth

"Jesus replied, 'You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.'"

Matthew 22:29

It's the easiest thing in the world not to read your Bible. After all, life is busy in the 21st century! Sometimes we feel like we barely have time to breathehow can we possibly find time to read the Bible every day?

Yet the Bible makes it clear that all Christians should read the word of God frequently. Why, you may ask? Well, consider this:

THE BIBLE IS SPIRITUAL FOOD

"Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation."
1 Peter 2:2

"When your words came, I ate them;  they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God Almighty."
Jeremiah 15:16

"They asked each other, 'Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?'"
Luke 24:32

You wouldn't go weeks without eating or drinking (I hope!). And so you shouldn't go very long without reading the word of God. Just as our bodies need food daily, so does our soul and spirit. As one pastor put it, "Are you on a spiritual starvation diet?" Let's hope not, because all starvation diets do is hurt us.

THE BIBLE IS THE FOUNDATION OF CHRISTIAN LIFE

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."
Mathew 7:24

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."
Matthew 24:35

"For, 'All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever..'"
1 Peter 1:24-25

The Bible never gets out dated. God designed it to be our study guide--our "Idiot's Guide To Life On Earth." The more we read the Bible, the stronger our foundation becomes, the stronger our faith is, the closer we come to God.

If we don't read the Bible regularly, we have no way of knowing if "false prophets" are leading us astray. We have no way of knowing whether or not our pastors are teaching us truth or fiction. We have no way of knowing whether or not our lives really stand up to what God wants from us. Interestingly, the Bible indicates that in the end times, many Christians will be "taken in" by ungodly teachings and men (
1 Timothy 4:1-2; 2 Timothy 3:13-15; 2 Peter 2, for example); that can't happen to you if you read your Bible regularly.

THE BIBLE IS OUR GUIDE

"For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope."
Romans 15:4
