All
praise is due to Allaah, Lord of all the Worlds. May peace and
blessings be upon the Messenger, his household and companions.
Brethren
in Islaam! Pilgrims to the House of Allaah! I implore you and
myself to fear Allaah. Fear of Allaah is the provision for the
journey towards the Abode of Peace and it is a cause for earning
forgiveness.
“And
take a provision for the journey, but the best provision is piety.
So fear Me, O men of understanding.”
(Al-Baqarah
2:197)
Pilgrims
to the House of Allaah! Thank Allaah for His great favour. He
gave you the opportunity to live in this blessed spiritual
environment after He had made it easy for you to stand in Arafah,
pass the night at Muzdalifah, move to Mina and to carry out the
rites of the day of slaughtering. How great are these rites! They
are full of Divine blessing and forgiveness. Praise Allaah for
this great day and august season.
Know
that this day of yours is a blessed day whose estimate is elevated
by Allaah. He called it “the Greatest day of Hajj” and made it
a celebration for all Muslims. It is a day in which the Pilgrims
gather at Mina and which other Muslims sacrifice animals for their
Lord, following to the Sunnah of Prophets Ibraheem and Muhammad,
peace and blessings be upon them.
Congratulations
to the pilgrims on the occasion of their Hajj and congratulations
to other Muslims on their Eedul Ad haa May Allaah let the Muslim
Nation have more of it in blessings, victory and power.
Guests
of Allaah! You are now in the day of slaughtering; the tenth
day of Dhul-Hijjah. In this day, the pilgrim goes to Mina to
thrown the stone of ‘Aqabah, slaughters his sacrifice if he is
doing Tamattu’ or Qiraan and then shaves his head. Everything
then becomes permissible for him except marital intercourse. He
then goes to Makkah to do the Tawaaful-Ifaadah which is a pillar
of Hajj. Allaah says in this regard,
“Then
let them complete their prescribed duties and perform their vows
and circumambulate the Ancient House.”
(Al-Hajj
22:29)
After
the Tawaaf, the pilgrim runs between Safa and Marwah if he is
doing Tammatu’ or if he is doing Qiraan or Ifraad and has not
done it with his arrival Tawaaf. The final termination of Ihraam
occurs after doing three things; Throwing the pebbles at
‘Aqabah, shaving or haircut and Tawaaful-Ifaadah. If the pilgrim
does these three, everything including marital intercourse is
permissible for him. If he however does not do them in the order
mentioned above, there is no harm in that.
Pilgrims
to the House of Allaah! It is obligatory that you should pass the
night at Mina today and tomorrow which is the first day of
Tashreeq and referred to by Allaah in His words,
“And
remember Allaah during the appointed days.”
(Al-Baqarah
2:203)
The
Messenger of Allaah said about these days,
“The
days of Mina are for eating, drinking and remembrance of
Allaah.”
(Muslim)
Remember
Allaah and glorify Him in these days in obedience to the command
of your Lord and Sunnah of your Prophet. The companions used to
recite Takbeer in these noble days. Ibn ‘Umar used to recite
Takbeer in his camp in Mina and people would echo his Takbeer and
that would make the whole of Mina shaken with Takbeer.”
It
is part of the Prophets guidance to throw the three Jamarahs after
the noon, starting with the small one, then the middle and finally
the ‘Aqabah, each with seven pebbles and saying, “Allaahu
akbar” with each pebble thrown. Passing the night at Mina is
also an obligation of Hajj.
It
is incumbent on the pilgrims to remember Allaah and obey Him
throughout their stay in Makkah.
Pilgrims
to the House of Allaah! Fear Allaah and perform your Hajj rites
according to the Sunnah. Relate with your fellow pilgrims in the
best possible manner. Do not harm others and be gentle and
compassionate. Respect the holiness of this place, preserve its
security and order and shun all that can disrupt this great rite.
It
is however saddening that some pilgrims neglect part of their Hajj
rites like throwing pebbles, passing night at Muzdalifah and the
like and they appoint proxies to do these rites on their behalf
with no justification. Some even go back to their countries
without passing nights at Mina or throwing the pebbles. This is a
contradiction of the Prophets’ guidance and a neglect to honour
the rites of Allaah. He says,
“Thus
it is, and whoever honours the symbols of Allah, then it is truly
from the piety of the hearts.”
(Al-Hajj
22:32)
When
the pilgrim has passed the night in the first and second days of
Tashreeq, it is permissible for him to leave Mina before sunset on
the 12th day. However, if anyone stays behind till the
13th day and throws the pebbles for that day, it is
better and greater in reward. Allaah says,
“But
whosoever hastens to leave in two days there is no sin on him and
whoever stays on, there is no sin on him, if his aim is to do good
and obey Allaah (fear Him).”
(Al-Baqarah
2:203)
When
the pilgrims are going back to their countries, they should
perform farewell Tawaaf, for the Messenger of Allaah commanded
that the pilgrims’ last act in Makkah should be circumambulation
of the House. If the pilgrim delays Tawaaful-Ifaadah and combines
it with Farewell Tawaaf, that will suffice him and there will be
no harm, Insha Allaah.
Fear
Allaah, dear Pilgrims, perform your Hajj rites perfectly as you
are commanded by your Lord when He says,
“And
perform properly, the Hajj and Umrah.”
(Al-Baqarah
2:196)
Also,
seek the reward of your deeds from your Lord and conclude your
rites with repentance and seeking forgiveness, Allaah says,
“Then
depart from the place whence all the people depart and ask Allaah
for His forgiveness. Truly, Allaah is Oft-forgiving,
Most-Merciful. So, when you have accomplished your Hajj rites,
remember Allaah as you remember your fathers or with a far more
remembrance. But of mankind, there are some who say: ‘Our Lord!
Give us (Your Bounties) in this world!’ and for such there will
be no portion in the Hereafter. And of them, there are some who
say: ‘Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in
the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of
the Fire’. For them, there will be allotted a share for what
they have earned. And Allaah is Swift at Reckoning.”
(Al-Baqarah
2:199-202)
My
brethren pilgrims! One of the phenomena that needs urgent
attention is some people’s haste in leaving Mina on the 12th
day. They expect the time of stone throwing in the noon, they then
suddenly move towards the Jamaraat, that they almost kill one
another. This is a great mistake and lack of understanding. The
time of stone throwing is wide, thanks to Allaah. Fear Allaah
therefore and do not harm yourselves. Hajj is a manifestation of
worshipping Allaah and a sign of Islaamic brotherhood. Beware not
to be like those who perform Hajj in order that their sins might
be forgiven but return home with sins heaped on them. Learn the
rules of Hajj rites and ask the competent scholars before you
embark on it.
Fellow
Muslims! It should be borne in mind that the belief of some
pilgrims that visiting Madeenah is a necessity for a valid Hajj is
a clear error. Visiting Madeenah is not part of Hajj, and has no
relation to hajj and it is not even obligatory. All Hadeeths that
are narrated in this regard are unauthentic and fabricated.
Dear
visitor to the Prophet’s city. Congratulations for your visiting
Madeenah, where faith abides and where the chosen Messenger
migrated to. You should however know that whoever wants to visit
Madeenah should have in his intention that he is visiting the
Prophet’s Mosque. He should visit it any time in order to pray
there and then greet the Prophet and his two companions with
respect and quietness. It is not necessary that one must pray a
certain number of prayers there as some people do believe. One
should also not rub hands on the Prophet’s room or any other
places as some people do.
Pilgrims
should observe the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah in all that
they do and beware of innovations and forbidden things. The
Messenger of Allaah said,
“Whoever
does a deed which we have not enjoined, it will be rejected.”
(Muslim)
It
is by following the above-mentioned instructions that one can have
an accepted Hajj and forgiven sins.
Brethren
in faith! You have come to this Holy Land in response to the call
of your Lord reciting Talbiyah and sincerely proclaiming the
Oneness of Allaah. You have now carried out most of Hajj rites, so
fear Allaah in the remaining parts and conclude your Hajj in a
proper manner, for actions are judged according to its end. Fear
Allaah during the rest of your life. Proclaim it clearly and
always at every time and every place that, “I answer Your call O
Allaah”, in order that the impacts of Hajj may appear on your
countenances and in order that each and every one of you may go
back home a better person. Let every pilgrim give a pledge to his
Lord to remain on the Straight Path, follow only the truth and
abide by the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah.
Do
you remember – while you are living in these great days – your
father Ibraheem and Ismaa‘eel while they were raising the
pillars of the House? Do you remember your Prophet Muhammad while
he was standing in this Holy Places where he called unto Islaam,
fought for its cause and never moved an inch from the message of
Islaam? Do you remember – while you are in the vicinity of this
House – that it has a brother who is presently groaning under
the oppression of the enemies of Islaam and is crying for help and
liberation from the claws of vicious and devilish Jews and
Zionists? That is the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. You should also
remember many brethren of yours in all places who are also marking
this ‘Eed under persecution, killing and expulsion from their
lands.
All
these lessons and memories that are full of Eeman are but lights
that illuminate the path to a bright future as they are
encouragements for harder working in order to help the religion of
Allaah, serve His slaves, improve the conditions of the Muslim
nation and foster unity among the Muslims. These are in view of
difficult situations under which our Ummah is living especially
now that the world is changing. There is no doubt in the fact
that, the occasion of Hajj confirms the greatness of Islaam,
magnanimity of its law, nobleness of its civilization, its perfect
preservation of human rights and its innocence of terrorism and
violence which the biased media accused it of. Hajj is an
obligation that calls to solidarity and unity, dialogue and
cooperation. The truth of precedence of the religion of Islaam and
its civilization came to manifest after the falsehood of
globalization that seeks to compromise and undermine our values
has been uncovered.
Pilgrims
to the House of Allaah! Fear Allaah and be conscious of Him.
Examine yourselves and reform your deeds. Know that this occasion
is not a mere temporary change in people’s lives. It is rather
a comprehensive change in all spheres of life that makes a pilgrim
go back to his home a better person. That is the sign of an
accepted Hajj that every pilgrim aspires for.
Adhere
then to only good and righteous deeds and renew your repentance to
your Lord and,
“Worship
your Lord until there comes unto you the certainty (i.e.
death).”
(Al-Hijr
15:99)
