I have been a piano teacher for approx. 6 years. My piano studio consists of 18-25 students at any given point in time. My music program covers basic note reading, to music theory, and harmonization. My students play a range of songs from Bach to Mozart to David Lanz and even an occasional pop song.
Students begin by learning about the music staff and how the notes fall into place. They are required to identify the keys on the piano that correspond to the notes they are reading. The students begin to play their first song at their first lesson. Each week, they are given a more challenging piece which will teach them new material while reinforcing what they have already learned. After 6 months, the majority of students are able to play classical music, including Bach and Beethoven.

PIANO RECITALS
Every year I hold an annual recital at the Carlton Plaza Retirement Home in San Jose, CA. The past 5 recitals had a large turnout of over 40 people and the students entertained the elderly. This brought back memories for the seniors, especially the ones who remember taking piano lessons in their youth. The last piano recitals are as follows:
"Ebony and Ivory," March 19, 2000 "Songs from the Heart," July 7, 2001 "Life is a Song, Love is the Music," July 21, 2002 "After Christmas Christmas Recital!" January, 2003 "Keys to the Heart" February 29, 2004

LESSONSI come to each individual student's home to give them an hour lesson every other week. Students are more comfortable in their own familiar environment, and it is also a convenience for the family. Students are required to purchase their own music and theory books as they advance to harder material. Students should practice every day for at least 30 minutes as beginners, 45 minutes for more advanced students. Several advanced students have begun to play duets and write their own music.
