special thanks to mark's sister sarah who recommended we visit the L.O.C. shamefully, even though i'm a proud librarian's daughter, we had considered skipping the library to focus on more 'famous' thinks. that definitely would have been a mistake.

here i am, absolutely dwarfed by the main entrance.
proof that there used to be a time when our government felt it was important to spend lots of money on learning.
i figured my mom would be proud.
behind me here, is a mosaic of the goddess athena. these steps led up into a viewing chamber, from which you could see the main reading room. entrance is restricted to the general public and photos are prohibited. it's a shame, because it was possibly the most ornately beautiful room i've ever seen. i can't even begin to describe it. just go see it for yourselves.
