Three Shamrocks in Australasian team

09 October 1999 - Three players from Brisbane's western suburbs Shamrocks Gaelic Football Club have been selected in the Australasian team to tour Ireland next year.

Shamrocks players Angie Doyle from Camp Hill, Brookfield's Jacqueline Peacock, and Louise O'Neill of Graceville, are all expected to take their place on tour, having been selected for Australasia after representing Queensland at the Australasian Gaelic Games in Perth this week.

Only four Queenslanders were chosen in the 25-player Australasian Ladies team, and three of them are from Brisbane's progressive Shamrocks club.

Shamrocks boasted 12 Queensland representatives at the recent Australasian Games. Jacqueline Peacock was captain of the Queensland Ladies team.

David Gall of Seventeen Mile Rocks was a member of the Queensland Minors under 18 team that won its second consecutive Australasian Championship.

The Australasian Gaelic Games are held every year for state representative teams from across Australia and New Zealand, and this year included Singapore for the first time.

Australasia will compete against other world teams at the International Football Competition in Dublin, Ireland, in mid-September next year, just prior to the All-Ireland football final.

This will be the first time that an Australasian Ladies team has been included.

The western suburbs Shamrocks club has places available for new players in mens, ladies and junior teams for the new season starting in March. Registrations are available now.
